Allegro, the eCommerce giant in Poland

What is Allegro? Some define it as the new eBay: an eCommerce giant, in which other brands and businesses can sell, and which is rampaging in .

In fact, YA is the first eCommerce platform in this country. Founded in 1999, it was acquired in 2016 by a consortium of venture capital firms led by Cinven, Permira and Mid Europa, for some 3,253 million dollars (almost 2,800 million euros) and has not stopped since then. It has more than 20 million registered users, who carry out some 14 million monthly transactions.

Allegro’s keys

If we look at the website itself, we will see that it has a clear, close, striking and quite attractive interface in terms of design. Here’s a sample.

But let’s go further… What sells? Allegro has a large stock of products ranging from the fashion sector to the supermarket, and with prices generally cheaper than in the physical stores of the businesses or brands present on the platform. The number of articles sold through the web amounts to 90 millionand 100,000 of Polish vendors who use it to sell their products.

The marketplace allows the user to have more contact with the seller, so you can manage collection issues and order payments with it, both through the platform and at the physical point of sale. If, for example, one of the sellers has a physical store located near your street, you can contact him and pick up the order (even pay for it) in the store itself. And that is perhaps one of its strengths, the flexibility and greater number of possibilities to make purchases online.

Another important fact that helps explain its success in its country of origin is that the eCommerce giant par excellence, Amazon does not operate in Poland yet.

Be that as it may, the data speaks. And in addition to its undeniable success in terms of sales, we can get an idea of its projection through its networks of followers: 1,937,931 on Facebook and 168,792 on YouTube.

François Nuyts, u.A luxury signing for the Polish eCommerce of the moment

Added to the success of this eCommerce is a luxury signing that was echoed a few months ago. Its about former director of Amazon Spain and Italy, , who recently joined the Allegro group as CEO. Nuyts, who will begin his relationship with the company this month, replaces the one who could be described until now as the head of Allegro, Przemyslaw Budkowski. The person who has managed to turn the platform into one of the most powerful eCommerce in the Polish country during the seven years he has dedicated to it.

For his part, Nuyts has a long journey not only at Amazon (where he held various positions), but also at companies such as Accenture, Plastic Omnium, Leo Burnett or Kellogg’s.

Given this, the question assails us: will Allegro be the perfect platform for those Spanish brands or businesses that wish to open their sales in Poland?

Time will tell.
