Castilla y León rules out implanting the covid passport

The vice president of the Board and spokesman, Francisco, this Thursday ruled out the implementation of the COVID passport in Castilla y León due to the “controversies” created among the experts, “not only political”, but also scientific, and given the possibility of creating ” a sense of false security” that “may contribute to not facilitating control” of this sixth wave.

“The experiences in other countries, such as Belgium, show us that the COVID passport has not managed to stop the wave at this time,” he assured at the press conference after the Governing Council.

Igea added that it is time, almost two years after the start of the pandemic, to “appeal to the responsibility of citizens and sectors to demand greater security”. To do this, a “positive campaign” will be launched, for which all sectors will be called “for its design” and promote “safe environments in the Community”. “That citizens are responsible in this important situation that we live in the middle of a new pandemic wave and not trust everything to the norm, which sometimes also fails. We have to maintain security and activity at the same time; with individual and collective responsibility “, assured the vice president.

“We have seen time pass in other countries and other communities that have applied it and we have come to the conclusion that there is no cost-benefit ratio. The benefit does not assure us that the measure is effective and it is not having the effect that we believed. The false sense of security it generates is more dangerous than the small boost we can give to the vaccination campaign,” he argued.

Finally, Igea has denied pressure from the hospitality sector to avoid implementing the COVID passport and argued that every time a decision of this type is made “the risk and benefit are balanced and people are listened to”, but this “does not determine the final decision.” In addition, he has criticized that there may be sectors that “do not want to apply it, and that of course it does have an influence”, to give as an example that he himself has enjoyed the Constitution bridge in a territory with a COVID passport: “Only in one place I have been asked.”
