WordPress Cloning Using Hosting Tools

This is the most practical way to make a clone of your site, the only requirement is to have enough space in your hosting account.

In the case of we have an application in the Cpanel of your hosting account called WPCenteras shown in the following image:

Another screen will appear with details of the installation and at the bottom you will see that you have an option to clone, as shown in the following image.

Then a form will appear where you must complete the data of the new clone.

  1. From this option all the domains that you have configured in your hosting account appear, select one of them where the clone will be located.
  2. You can choose a folder for the clonein the example we see that it will be installed under the store folder in the courseswp.info domain, then the clone can be consulted with the following url courseswp.info/clone.
  3. finally you can submit the form in start cloning.

At the end of the cloning, a message will appear that it has been carried out successfully, on this screen you will see a link from which you can access clone site.

  4. Cloning WordPress using a plugin

The other alternative practice is using a plugin.

The plugin that we will use will be , and it has a correct behavior despite the warning messages that the author has placed.

From the WordPress backend under Plugins > Add New, we search for and install the plugin.

After installing and activating it you will see that you have a new menu option, as shown below, access the option: Sites / Start.

You will see a screen in which there is only one option: Create new staging site.

Then a screen will appear where you can give clone namethe clone can be consulted based on your domain plus this name.

Once the name is defined, you can start with cloning.

You will see a screen where a progress bar appears and the records of the actions that are being carried out.

Once the process is finished, an option will appear to directly access the clone url.

When accessing you will see that an access screen appears, you can use the same administrator user credentials that you use for the origin site.

After accessing, you will see your website, however the top bar will have other color for difference that you are working on a clone.

And voila, with this you already have a new clone on your website.

What if you’ve already tested and now want to remove the clone? or maybe you want to update the clone because you have new data on the source website.

If you access the Sites/Start option again:

You will see now that you can see the sites you have clonedas can be seen in the following image:

    From that screen you can:

    1. To return to create new clones from the original site.
    2. You may delete clone existing.
    3. You may update the clonethis means synchronizing it with the new data from the source site.

There are different plugins that perform the clone function, you can also use the .

    conclusion

As you have seen, you have no excuse not to make a clone of your site.

It will be very useful especially when you want to try new plugins or make configurations that can damage your original website, but do not forget to remove the clone aftersince this consumes disk space.
