Create tables in WordPress with TinyMCE Advanced – .com

In this tutorial we are going to see how to create and insert an HTML table in WordPress pages or posts with the TinyMCE Advanced plugin.

The TinyMCE Advanced plugin

The tables help us to organize content and present it in a more attractive way. So let’s see how to create them using the classic TinyMCE Advanced.

This plugin is free and found in the WordPress repository. It is very versatile and allows us to perform many actions. With it we can search and replace characters, customize menu bars or create HTML tables among many other options.

The good thing about it is that we can use it as much as we need and when deactivating or deleting it, the information will continue to be displayed correctly since all it does is translate its menu options to HTML, so it’s a great tool for layout content in tables. With all that said, let’s get started!

Install and configure plugin

The first thing we will have to do is install the TinyMCE Advanced plugin. To do this, we can go directly to , download it and, once we have it on the computer, go to the WordPress dashboard, “Plugins/Add new/Upload plugin”. Then we select the file, we install and activate the same. Similarly, we can also do it from “Plugins / Add new”, looking for the name of the plugin, installing it and finally clicking on “Activate”.

As soon as we finish, a new section will appear in the “Settings/TinyMCE Advanced” menu from where we can adjust a multitude of options on the visual editor toolbar. It not only allows us to remove options that we don’t use, but also to add new ones and even add two more toolbars.

In addition, we can customize them as we want and place the options that we use often more at hand. All this is explained in detail in the seventh class of the , where the advanced editor is discussed and you can see the plugin in action.

To do what we have in hand, we will not need to modify anything in this section, since the option to create tables appears by default when we install the plugin.

Create a table with TinyMCE Advanced

As we have commented, TinyMCE Advanced allows us to carry out actions of advanced editing in post and pages without using code. Only through the buttons on the content editor toolbar.

So let’s go into a post to add a new table. When we open it we will see that the menu options that are shown by default are somewhat different from the usual ones.

Well then, for create a table, we will have to click on “Table/Table”. A grid will appear representing the rows and columns Of the same. We simply have to move over it and click when we have adjusted the dimensions with which we want to create the table. This will add it directly to the article:

The next step will be to fill it in with the corresponding data. If we need it, we can also apply some style to the texts that we insert.

Do you see how simple? Well, we can still continue customizing it a little more, and all without writing code.

Modify and customize the table

This plugin allows us to add columns or rows, delete them, divide cells, combine them or modify their properties and the table itself.

As an example, we are going to make a couple of changes so you can see what it would look like. The first thing we will do is insert a new row at the end of the table to add the links to the three courses that we mention in it, the , the and the .

So we will go to the last row of the table and click on any cell in it. Next we will click on the menu “Table/Row/Insert row below”. This will create a new row where we can add the missing information.

In this way we can modify the structure of the same once we have created it. Other things that it allows us to do are reduce its size, change the style and color of the borders or even the background color.

In this case we are going to reduce the width of the table. It will go from occupying the full width to 70% of the space. Again, we will have to click anywhere on the table and go to “Table/Table Properties”. The width appears in the “General” tab, from here we can also change the alignment.

We save the changes, and now, let’s see how it looks:

We already have it! What do you think? In this simple way we can insert tables in our pages and articles without writing any HTML code.

Summary and conclusion

TinyMCE is a free plugin that allows us to customize the options that are displayed in the visual editor toolbar. In addition, with it we can add, delete or move the buttons that are shown in it.
