A few weeks after it is held, not a few citizens ask themselves the same questions as in April: “Will I have to be a polling station?”, “When will I know if I have been spared?” The answer is that you have to be patient because not all town halls hold the draw for the tables on the same day, nor do all the town halls publish the list of those who have been ‘touched’.
It dictates in its article 26.4 that the municipalities will draw lots to decide the citizens who have to be at the tables “between the twenty-fifth and twenty-ninth days after the call.” Making calculations, this process should have taken place between October 19 and 23, but the draws could be brought forward and held from this Tuesday, the 15th.
There are many town halls that held the draw on the 15th. In the case of Madrid, the draw was held on Thursday the 17th. Some corporations have published or will publish the ‘lucky winners’ on their website; however, they do not have to. In this case, you have to wait for the notification with acknowledgment to arrive at the address, something that usually happens in the following three days. That is why for this Friday the 18th some have already received the news.
However, it must be remembered that the consistories have until the 23rd to make the draw and that the notification at home can be delayed sine die, without this being an obstacle for the elected citizen to have the duty to go to the constitution of the table. In any case, the normal thing is that before the end of October you know if you are at a table or not.
This is how the 10N polling station draws work
Each polling station is made up of a president and two members, and two substitutes are additionally designated for each of these three members. In other words, in the process -the city hall draw is done electronically- a total of nine people are designated per table, although only three of them will act on election day.
After being notified at home, the designated members of a table will be sent a manual detailing the functions for that day. The condition of member of the polling station is mandatory and the excuses that prevent the acceptance of the position must be documented before the pertinent Electoral Board.
Failure to appear at the act of constitution of the tables on November 10 when you have been appointed means committing an electoral crime that can be punished with imprisonment from three months to one year or a fine from six to 24 months.
The president and the two members that make up the final table will be entitled to paid leave during the electoral appointment if that day affects their working hours. They will also have the right to a reduction of five hours from their working hours the following day and a diet of 65 euros.
