Electricity price today March 9 by the hour: when is it cheaper and when is it more expensive to put appliances

March continues with a high price on the main energies (gas, gasoline, butane, electricity…), despite the drop compared to the last session on Tuesday that left the price on electricity. As shown by data from , the organization that manages the electricity markets of Spain and Portugal and collects their rates, the average price of electricity in Spain during this Tuesday, March 8, is 472.97 euros/MWh. Very high figures when compared to the price set a year ago, when the MWh cost 57.06 euros.

At what time is electricity cheaper?

With regard to the daily variation, as usual, the ‘cheapest’ sections are concentrated both in the early hours of the day and in the early hours of the afternoon. They are the second cheapest, highlighting the section between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. when the price reaches its lowest figure, reaching 356.74 euros/MWh.

On the contrary, the central hours of the morning as well as those closest to dusk represent the highest cost, reaching even 605 euros/MWh between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Why does the price of electricity vary so much?

This constant increase in prices, as well as its variation, is due to the higher cost of gas in international markets, which is used in combined cycle plants. As these are the most expensive, they are the ones that, in general, mark the price in most hours.
