Freshly Cosmetics closes a €19M round a few days before opening its first physical store in London – Marketing 4 Ecommerce – Your online marketing magazine for e-commerce

“Since its birth in February 2016, Freshly Cosmetics has had a clear idea: to revolutionize the world of cosmetics, focusing on the health and well-being of people, animals and the planet. And, in just over five years, it has managed to spread this message to more than a million customers not only in Spain, but throughout Europe and also in China». This is how the statement begins through which the company, as the best online store in Spain, announces the closing of a series A for 22 million dollars (around €19.03M) led by the British fund Blossom Capital.

In addition to this acceleration in internationalization, the investment will also allow the company to increase its capacity for innovation and development of new products and sustainable packaging. The company, which expects to invoice a figure close to 50 million euros in 2021, has exceeded one million customers worldwide thanks to products that contain more than 99% ingredients of natural origin, and none of which are tested on animals. In addition, 95% of the containers are made of 100% recyclable glass, aluminum and kraft and the company is already working with new materials, such as the cardboard tubes that it has already implemented in some of its products.

A company created by two passionate about natural cosmetics

Freshly’s story began when at age 23, Mireia Trepat and Miquel Antolin, both chemical engineers, realized that they did not want to dedicate themselves to working in a chemical sector that they were not passionate about. As they explain, in 2015 they saw that «traditional cosmetics needed a change, a revolution». And since Miquel’s mother, Mercè Civil, made natural cosmetic products, they saw the opportunity to add value to the cosmetic world. This is how Freshly Cosmetics was born, which defines itself as “a brand with digital and sustainable DNA” and that has grown through its own online channel. In 2019, it began its offline expansion, opening physical stores in Barcelona (2019), Madrid (2020) and Valencia (2021).

Next Friday, November 19, as one of the first signs of this acceleration in internationalization, it will open its first physical store outside our borders, the Freshly Store London at 44 Carnaby Street in London. The store, with two floors and a total surface area of 85 square metres, is located on one of the busiest streets in the city, with more than half a million monthly pedestrians. With this opening, the company also reaffirms its commitment to retail and the Freshly Store London will become the second store opened this year 2021, after the opening of the Freshly Store València, on October 1.

As explained Miguel Antolinco-founder and CEO of Freshly Cosmetics, “Since 2016 we have shown that we have a lot to contribute to the world and now we can still reach more Freshly Fans around the planet. This investment will allow us to exploit the full potential of the Freshly team, the Freshly Team, with the main objective of continuing to show that other cosmetics are possible”.

For your part Mireia Trepatco-founder and CMO, explains that “We have come this far, not only because we are agile, but because always try to do things right. Our strategy is to continue innovating and for the people who trust in Freshly Cosmetics to continue to perceive how different we see the cosmetic sector, betting on our values, transparency and a strong connection with Freshly Fans. The cosmetic industry is one of the industries that consumes the most single-use plastic and we need to provide a solution, education and transparency to it. We believe that this transition is possible and we want to be the spark that accelerates it: companies, people and the planet united in the same goal”.
