Google Tag Manager Course #8. Data layer – .com

We arrive at the eighth class of the Google Tag Manager basic course, in which we are going to see the most important element: The Data Layer or data layer.

Basically the Data layer is a drawer that stands between the web and Google Tag Manager to collect data that serves the second in the variables, the labels and the activators. Thanks to the Data Layer Google Tag Manager works.

If it weren’t for this invisible data layer that sits between the Web and GTM we would have neither events nor variables nor any data with which to feed tags and triggers. So pay attention to this class and do not stay with any doubt. Go for it!

You have already seen, there are four ways to send data to the Data Layer, through what are called event listeners, both the ones integrated in GTM (and which practically correspond to the triggers) and the custom ones.

The other two methods are through plugins or complements, and the last one is, if all of the above fails, programming information submissions thanks to the datalayer.push or window.datalayer.push function.

Homework for this class. Activate the preview mode of Google Tag Manager activated, go to the web tab connected to the browser console and send an event called userData to the Data Layer. Go back to the preview and review the changes that have occurred. After that, go back to the console and send an event called pageData with the category parameters.

Any doubt or question that may arise about this class or the course can be sent through the intranet support form. See you in the next lesson! 🙂
