How the day of San José falls, in which communities it is a holiday and what restrictions the Government is preparing

Next March 19 is the day of San José, a date marked on the Valencian calendar because it announces the end of their Fallas. However, this mythical party has been postponed this year for the summer. And, in addition, the perimeter closures have been decreed during that day and the weekend, since it falls on Friday and is a bridge in several autonomous communities.

When is the San José long weekend and in which communities is it a holiday?

The resolution of the General Directorate of Labor establishes that March 19, Friday of next week, is a holiday in 7 Spanish communities: the Valencian Community, Extremadura, the Community of Madrid, Murcia, Galicia, Navarra and the Basque Country.

Thus, these regions will enjoy a short bridge as a result of the San José festival shortly before Holy Week, whose holidays are April 1 (Holy Thursday) for all of Spain except Catalonia and the Valencian Community, on April 2 ( Good Friday) for the whole country, and April 5 (Easter Monday) for the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Navarra, the Basque Country and La Rioja. However, the Government is working on a series of restrictive measures that encompass all holidays and avoid a fourth wave at all costs.

What restrictions is the Government preparing for the San José bridge (and Easter)

The upcoming bridges on San José Day and Easter Week are a clear risk for the country to start the fourth wave of the coronavirus. Thus, the scientists are asking that mobility restrictions be maintained during those dates, especially at Easter. An extra effort that would delay the fourth wave, which would be positive because it is estimated that vaccination of those over 70 and people at risk will end in the spring.

Thus, the Interterritorial Health Council decided on Wednesday a plan of restrictions on mobility designed for Easter and the day of San José that consists of the perimeter closure of all the Autonomous Communities except the Balearic and Canary Islands on March 17 and 21 and from March 26 to April 9. The Community of Madrid voted against this measure.

In addition to these perimeter closures, the Executive’s Easter plan contemplates a curfew at 10:00 p.m., a meeting of a maximum of 6 people and no mass events. In addition, the Ministry of Health made a request to the students not to return to their residences of origin at Easter.
