How to enable and use the reading list in Brave Browser 【 BRAVE 】

What is the Reading List?

The Reading List is a feature similar to bookmarks. While bookmarks are used to save web pages and sites for later or frequent visits, the Reading List serves the same purpose for articles and pages on specific topics, ideas, or tasks. It allows you to create a designated folder for reading items without cluttering your bookmarks. Additionally, the Reading List is synchronized across devices connected to the same account, and saved web pages can be accessed offline.

Enable Reading List in Brave Browser

Chrome introduced the Reading List feature in version 89, but it’s not available in some Chromium-based browsers like the privacy-focused Brave Browser. However, you can enable it using experimental flags.

  1. Copy brave://flags/#read-later and paste it into the address bar in the Brave browser to open the Brave experiments page.
  2. The Reading List option will be highlighted in yellow. Click on the dropdown menu next to it.
  3. Select “Enabled” to activate the Reading List feature.
  4. A message will appear at the bottom asking you to restart your browser. Click on it to relaunch Brave.

After restarting, you’ll find a Reading List menu below the toolbar in the upper right corner.

Can’t find the Reading List option?

If you can’t see the Reading List icon, you’ll need to enable the bookmarks bar:

  1. Click on the hamburger menu in the upper right corner of the Brave browser.
  2. Go to “Bookmarks” and select “Show Bookmarks”.

The bookmarks bar should now be visible along with the Reading List menu.

  2. You’ll see a list of saved pages, divided between “Unread” and “Pages you have read”.
  3. Click on the page you want to read.

The article will open in another tab.

Marking a Page as Read

The Reading List also allows you to organize articles as “Read” or “Unread”:

  1. Click on the Reading List icon in your Brave browser to open it.
  2. When you hover over an item, you’ll see options to “Mark as read” and “Remove”.
  3. Tap “Mark as read” to move the article to the section of pages you’ve read.

If you want to remove an item, click on the “Remove” icon.

Wrapping Up

The Reading List is a valuable tool for those who frequently save articles for later reading. While initially available in Chrome, you can now enable it in the Brave browser as well. We hope Brave will soon make it a standard feature rather than an experimental flag.
