HYROX, ‘the fitness revolution’ enters Spain: debut in Madrid at the end of 2021 and ten events on the ‘roadmap’. It is a competition that combines 8km of running with 8 functional workouts. In events, all participants must complete the same course and will receive their personal time to see their world ranking in both doubles and singles.
It is an indoor race where speed is not everything and fitness is a fundamental part of the event. That is what is proposed by , a German company that has entered Spain and Portugal at the hands of Victum Sports, a licensee in charge of undertaking an expansion plan that includes organizing at least two events in 2021-2022 and up to ten appointments on the calendar in three seasons.
HYROX is an international level competition and all races follow the same format. It is a competition accessible to everyone with a minimum level of physical fitness, since the workouts do not require complex technique. The competition workouts are: Ski Erg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges and Wall Balls.
After the race is over, each participant receives their finish time. This result is directly comparable to that of any other participant worldwide. The average completion time of a HYROX race is 1:30h and the completion rate is 98%. As an important note, in doubles and share the workouts with your partner.
The debut will be in Madrid on December 19, 2021, at which time the pandemic is expected to be more controlled and the event can be organized with a good number of participants. “In the first event in Germany, 650 people participated; we believe that we will be able to exceed a thousand in Madrid”, explains Agustín García, director of sports and licenses for HYROX in Spain.
Before the pandemic broke out, which has forced the cancellation of the racing calendar in 2020 and 2021, tests were organized in Germany with between 1,500 and 1,800 registered, who together with their companions gathered around 5,000 people in a sports venue. The forecasts for when the pandemic stops wreaking havoc are good, since well-received events are already being organized in the United States.
The sports venue chosen to organize the competition is neither more nor less than the IFEMA fairgrounds in Madrid. The complex is spacious, has good ventilation systems and numerous accesses. The costs of organizing a race exceed 200,000 euros.
HYROX is the first fitness competition for everyone. It already has seven associated centers in Spain, where this year it will debut with an event in Madrid
The company’s roadmap is to end 2021-2022 with at least two organized events; after Madrid it will be the turn of another city, presumably Barcelona or Valencia, which will be organized in May. Looking ahead to 2022-2023, the goal is to organize five events, which will rise to ten in the third season, with cities like Seville, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Bilbao on the roadmap. The jump to Portugal is scheduled between 2022 and 2023. Each participant must pay a registration fee that costs between 54 euros and 74 euros, depending on when they register.
The company operates in eight countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States, the main international fitness markets by business volume. In the US market, it created a subsidiary in September 2018, and until December it plans to organize six events in Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Austin and Orlando.
Regarding its second line of business, the boxes, the company plans to grow with independent centers that pay for a license to be able to operate as an official HYROX Gym center. The company already has seven official gyms in Madrid, Pamplona, Barcelona, Mijas (Málaga), Granada, Huelva and Valencia. All of them are independent centers that offer cross-training and prepare subscribers to participate in HYROX races. Hence, where boxes operate there are more possibilities of ending up organizing events. Of course, it is not necessary to be enrolled in an Official HYROX Gym to participate in the appointment.
