Import CSV in Google Data Studio – .com

In this tutorial we are going to learn how to import a CSV (Comma Separated Values) file into Google Data Studio easily and quickly.

What is and what is Google Data Studio for?

Google Data Studio is a free application from Google that allows us to organize, manage and visualize data in a simple way for facilitate analysis tasks and decision making as we see in the .

This tool is very useful since we can handle information from any data source, for example from Google Analytics or from a social network.

Likewise, we can also import the information from any source and create dashboards practically automatically since Google Data Studio provides us with predefined professional templates and the possibility of create custom reports depending on what we need. So let’s start at the beginning, let’s see how we can import a CSV file. Let us begin!.

CSV import

The first thing we have to do is enter the website and log in with our Gmail account, in this way we will access the control panel. Once inside we can follow several paths, one would be to click on “Data sources” and then on the “+” button to choose among the available sources, and another would be through the option “Start a new report / Blank”, which is which we are going to use this time.

This will take us to another screen in which we will find a menu (located on the right) from which we can add the data source. It is possible to select them from among those that appear in the list, which are some examples plus the latest ones that we have used, if applicable, or also click on the “Create data source” button to create a data source different as we will see below, so we will click on that option.

After doing so, a new screen will open where we will have to select the source of the data. As we can see, Google Data Studio informs us of the connectors that are currently available and that are supported by the tool, we can choose a wide variety of them.

In fact, it allows us to connect with data sources from Google Ads, YouTube, Facebook, or Analytics, among others. It also supports upload a CSV directly, which is a text file where the data for each record appears in rows separated by commas. If you need to know the characteristics of the supported files, be it the format, limits, etc., you can find it on the official page.

Simple up to here, right? Well, the next thing we will do is place ourselves on the “File upload” option and click on “Select” to incorporate the CSV. This allows us to report on data from any source even if there are no specific connectors supported in the app, which opens up a lot of possibilities. Well come on, let’s go to the next point.

Authorize data upload

If it is the first time we upload a file we will need to perform this extra step. We will have to authorize the upload of the file to Google Cloud Storage, which is where Google Data Studio will store the information we add.

So we will click on “Authorize” and a window will open where we can grant permissions to the application by clicking on “Allow”. Now that we have granted the permissions necessary we can continue and see how to upload the file, there is little left.

Upload CSV file

Next we are going to do the file upload. To do so, simply click on the “Click to upload files” button or drag it to the corresponding field. Either way, this will allow us to import several at the same time if we need it.

So we will only have to select it, clicking on the button that we have commented, or drag it to the box and wait for it to be processed.

And that’s it! We already have the CSV file uploaded to Google Data Studio, so we can start using reports, predefined or customized, that will allow us to display the data in a graphic and friendly way, making it easier for us to analyze them. What to wait to start? :).
