PTo find out more about the company and the web domain sector, we talked to Joan Miquel Durán (Manacor, 1981), CEO of DonDominio.
You have been CEO of MrDomain for more than 15 years, how has the sector changed since then? How do you remember that time?
When I started working in the IT sector, I only knew Network Solutions, Tucows and Arsys as domain registrars, we are talking about the end of the 90s. Records used to be done by sending faxes, so a lot has changed.
At that time, both Internet connections and the online world were in a primitive development, so as the years have passed, their use and enjoyment have been democratized, connections have improved, and the number of registrars and companies or people who work in the sector because although it is not an offline world, we could say that the first globalization comes from the opening of the digital world to all people with an internet connection.
Out of curiosity, how did you decide on your own domain name? 😉
Well, we had a clear idea of the business and the slogan and being the main product the domain, this had to be included.
I think at the time we were still somewhat influenced by the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but lordofdomainsApart from being an IDN, it sounded too much like the movie. So thinking of other similar options and having a furniture store near the cinema called DonArmario (I think it still exists), MrDomain.
What are the current trends around the creation of web pages?
It all depends on who creates that web page. By having tools that allow us to design a website in a relatively simple way, it will depend on the options that said software offers us so that it resembles current trends.

What would you say sets you apart from the competition?
I would say that the Customer Support, although I am sure that the competition also offers or tries to offer a good service. In our case, the team places a lot of emphasis on customer service to achieve excellence and I believe that for our clients it is one of our strengths.

What aspects should users take into account when buying a domain?
Before specifying the brand, be clear that the domain is free. On the other hand, noor use names that are very long or that can lead to confusion in terms of their writing.
Beyond that, at MrDomain we offer more than 800 domain extensions, so you will surely find one that fits the idea you have in mind.
What do you think are the main mistakes we make when we buy a domain?
I would say a typing error, although it can be corrected depending on the extensions by allowing the domain to be dropped and being able to re-register a new one without said error if it is free. These are the details that you must take into account when registering a domain, in addition to those indicated in the previous question.
Have you noticed an increase in the purchase of hosting and domains as a result of the pandemic?
Yes, analyzing the registrations during the confinement we saw that it had grown in 38% compared to the same period of the year above and renovations have maintained a similar growth, so they were surely projects that were in a drawer but had not been developed due to lack of time.
There were also people who saw it as an opportunity to start a business after losing their job, so it was more than ever necessary to recover a source of income.

How do you imagine the domain and web hosting industry in 2025?
Well, the technological sector is constantly changing and they have given up mail and websites for dead on countless occasions, so it is certainly difficult to make forecasts. But I doubt that beyond new applications for development, there will be a very significant change in terms of what we can offer.
