Korean and Japanese car brands are more reliable than American ones, according to a study

For the thirty-third time, the consultancy JD Power of the most reliable car brands in the US market.

This annual study was carried out between the months of July and November 2021, and included the responses of 29,487 car owners with three years of service.

To compare the brands fairly, since using the gross figures would be unfair, those responsible for the report have established a common parameter: the problems per 100 vehicles (PP100).

Kia, Buick and Hyundai, the most reliable

According to their results, the first positions are for Korean and Japanese brands, above the American ones. Thus, the Kia brand occupies the highest position in the classification, with a score of 145 PP100. This is followed by Buick (147 PP100), Hyundai (148 PP100), Toyota (158 PP100) and Dodge (166 PP100).

On average, mass market brand cars have an average of 190 problems per 100 vehicles, 14 PP100 fewer compared to luxury brands (201 PP100).

And as for the categories, the infotainment elements, such as voice recognition, the Bluetooth system or the touch screen, tend to be the most problematic, with an average of 51.9 PP100.

“Some automakers are doing much better than others at preventing problems. These problems include the mechanics, the exterior and the interior of the vehicle, but also the infotainment systems, driver assistance systems and all other electronic systems in today’s vehicles,” says David Amodeo, director of global automotive for JD Power.

Looking at the individual models, the Porsche 911 is the highest-ranked model in the study for the second year in a row. This is the third time in the last four years that the 911 has earned this honor, a remarkable achievement.”
