The prestigious economist José María Gay de Liébana dies

The economist, lawyer and university professor, José María Gay de Liébana, died this Friday in Barcelona at the age of 68 after a long fight against cancer. Gay de Liébana was a regular columnist for elEconomista and .

The disclosure of the most diverse economic issues in Spain, and in other countries, has in Gay de Liébana one of its highest representatives through its outstanding presence in all types of media.

Equally remarkable is his extensive academic curriculum, with a career spanning 42 years as a university professor, the more than 25 books signed alone or with various authors, or his countless conferences

In addition to being a Doctor of Economic Sciences and a Doctor of Law, he also had the titles of expert witness, chartered accountant and auditor. His degrees also included degrees in Business Sciences and Business Administration and Management, in addition to being a graduate in Business Management Studies, Economic-Financial Specialty, by Esade, and having an MBA and Master’s Degree in International Business.

In his teaching role, his work as professor of Financial Economics and Accounting at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona (UB) for four decades stands out. He also taught Master’s and Postgraduate classes and was a visiting professor at other national and international universities.

He was also a member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors, and accumulated innumerable distinctions in all his disciplines of action, in addition to being an active member in multiple entities, from the College of Economists of Catalonia to Foment del Treball, through the Spanish Association Accounting and Business Administration (AECA).
