Meliá sells the Me Cancún hotel

The chain has sent a statement to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) announcing the sale of the ME Cancun hotel, located in the Mexican Caribbean.

, with more than 400 rooms, is one of the two vacation resorts operated by the prestigious ME by Meliá brand in Mexico, next to the ME Cabo hotel (Los Cabos, Baja California). Previously known as Meliá Turquesa, ME Cancún was renovated in 2007 and relaunched under the company’s young luxury brand, which brings together a portfolio of hotels with personality in which customer experience, avant-garde design, international cuisine and high technology play a fundamental role.

The sale of the hotel has been completed for an amount of 61.2 million euros, generating an approximate capital gain of 26.4 million euros. The impact of this operation is recorded in the results of the second quarter of 2012.

will maintain management

Although Meliá has disposed of ownership of this asset, the company will maintain management of the establishment, which belongs to one of its emblematic brands.

The operation is part of the progressive strategic orientation of its business model towards a company with more weight in managed hotels than in ownership. A policy that seeks to optimize the value of brands and management capacity and that has been reaffirmed by the company on various occasions, most recently during its General Shareholders’ Meeting, held in June and where they also made themselves known to achieve the figure of 500 hotels within three years.
