Metro de Madrid train drivers will go on strike for 24 hours on October 17

The Madrid Metro Train Drivers Union has announced 24-hour strikes for next October 17, the day on which the centenary of the underground is commemorated, where they denounce the asbestos crisis and the lack of train drivers and trains.

This union also alludes, in a statement, to the concealment of information and the need to carry out a study of air quality in correct conditions” as reasons for the strike.

“The patience of the union has run out,” say the train drivers, who also charge against the Community of Madrid and the Ministry of Transport for “being more concerned about the technological revolution of the suburban and the trains without drivers of 2030” than “cutting the great conflicts that have existed for years”.

The train drivers’ union alludes to “the lack of diligence, rigor and information” in reference to asbestos, the “breach” of the agreement, the “need to create employment” in all groups related to the suburban and the “continuous attacks suffered” by the workers, as well as the “lack of action” by the company.
