Mundimoto expects to invoice 100 million this year selling used motorcycles online

Alberto Fossas and Josep Talavera are motorcycle dealers, in the literal sense of the word, since in 2019 they saw a business opportunity in the online sale of second-hand motorcycles in Spain, through an offer with guarantees for the seller and the private buyer, a quick review and set-up and a profitable intermediation from the first transaction, in a sector that had been active for years for used cars but without precedent in motorcycles.

What Alberto Fossas started in his parents’ parking lot as a motorcycle enthusiast and Josep Talavera encouraged him to professionalize has gone from a turnover of one million euros in 2019 to 15 million in 2021, and they expect to reach 100 million this year, after having perfected the business and rented a space of 20,000 square meters in Barcelona where the motorcycles they buy are cleaned and tuned to find a new owner in a matter of days.

Mundimoto had a first push last summer, with a seed capital financing round of 1.3 million euros, and has just closed a 20 million financing round led by the international fund P101, and which is completed by specialist funds in mobility Autotech Ventures and Maniv Mobility.

With this money, they plan to double the workforce to 400 or 450 people at the end of the year, including the hiring of 30 engineers to develop the technological area, and they also plan to make the leap to other European countries, beyond Spain.

“A year ago we were eight people and now we are 200; then we sold 40 motorcycles a month and in February there were 800; we were in a space of 300 square meters and now we have 20,000, but we have already filled it and we are looking for more warehouses”, Alberto exemplifies. and Joseph.

This new Mundimoto headquarters, inaugurated six months ago, has 1,000 motorcycles on display -which are expected to be 2,000 for the summer- for those who, in addition to seeing them through photography and video on the web, want to get to know the neighborhood of La Verneda of Barcelona.

Mundimoto has the vocation to offer all kinds of models, so that whoever is looking for a motorcycle of any kind can find it. From Vespas to Ducatis, through Harleys. The average age is seven years and is declining, and prices range between 1,000 and 25,000 euros, depending on the model, year of manufacture and kilometers travelled. They also facilitate financing and contracting insurance.

The company sold 700 motorcycles in 2020, 4,000 in 2021 and expects it to be between 25,000 and 30,000 this year. The set-up is carried out by 35 mechanics, which can be more than 200 due to the capacity of the facilities, and 70% of the motorcycles are sold outside of Catalonia, with Madrid and Valencia as star cities. That is why they are looking for a logistics warehouse in the Madrid area, keeping the headquarters and reconditioning workshops in Barcelona.

Josep Talavera (also an entrepreneur in another digital business: Decowood) acknowledges that the pandemic has favored them, since it has boosted online commerce and, at the same time, the lack of chips has reduced the availability of new motorcycles, which is why The second-hand market has increased.

To digest their rapid growth and continue promoting it, they have Álex Lopera (co-founder of Verse) as head of operations, and Fabián Patus (with 30 years of experience in multinational automotive manufacturers) as head of the mechanics area.
