Nine gigantic cranes, Almeida’s solution to avoid traffic jams in Madrid

José Luis Martínez Almeida, mayor of Madrid, is clear on how to decongest the continuous and kilometric traffic jams that occur in Madrid, even more so after the episodes experienced during these days ago where the capital registered the highest retention in the last 18 months.

“There have been monumental traffic jams, you don’t have to put hot cloths on; I apologize on behalf of the City Council for them,” said the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, who blamed these traffic jams on “a series of accidents at key points.”

There are several factors that have triggered these long traffic jams on the M30 in recent weeks, such as the return to offices, schools and universities, the fear of using public transport due to the risk of covid contagion and, above all, , the works and the Asphalt operation.

To try to solve these uncomfortable problems, Almeida has proposed the installation of “nine gigantic cranes in key points to unclog an accident, facilitating the removal of vehicles, improving procedures with mobility agents.” Even so, the mayor is committed to “continuing to favor the use of public transport, with incentive measures” as well as “improving the ability to react.”

These cranes will be located at five locations during the morning rush hour

The installation of these cranes is not something new, since this measure has been implemented on days of heavy rain. What will change is that they will now be ready to use from Monday to Friday.

As confirmed by Almeida, these cranes will be located in five places during the morning rush hour in: North and Manoteras knots, Ventas, Méndez Álvaro and San Pol de Mar; and at four other points coinciding with the afternoon rush hour: Puerta de Hierro, connection with the A-3, Ventas and Méndez Álvaro.
