People in UX. Meet and empathize with users – | Blog

The technique of construction of people in UX helps us define user profiles when it comes to knowing characteristic features of the target audience of a website or application.

What is People in UX

Knowing, understanding, understanding and empathizing with the users of a system is key to its success. The people construction technique is one of the most used in the HCI and UCD (User Centered Design) field.

It helps the digital product manager understand who the product is designed for, in making decisions and not losing focus on the project’s objectives and user needs.

The technique of creating personas was devised by Alan Cooper.

Alan Cooper defines people as the archetype of users who represent three main types of elements:

  • User behavior patterns.
  • User goals.
  • User needs.

Before building people, it is necessary to have defined the scenarios. The scenarios are nothing more than a description of the situations of use and contextualize the interactions that the user makes with the digital product, be it a website or an application.

How to create personas or a user profile in UX

It is necessary to know the objectives of the project in which we work and they must be provided by the client or by the business and commercial area.

The objectives must be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and limited in time. Also known as SMART, Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-Bound.

We must meet with the stakeholders since they will provide us with relevant information about the business sector. In the interviews with the Stakeholders we will obtain information that It will help to create people since they will provide us with data on what the user who demands the products or services is like.

Therefore the process of creating people consists in:

  • Design of interviews and questionnaires for stakeholders.
  • Selection of techniques, methods and archiving of information.
  • Definition and application of interviews and questionnaires.
  • Data analysis.

After this first step and with the analysis of the data obtained, a general description of the initial groups can be outlined, identifying the objectives.

For example: People with a family over 35 years old, looking for a new car to go to work and family trips. Or young people who have little purchasing power and are looking for their first second-hand car.

Subsequently, it will be necessary to describe the details of the identified groups and personify these user typologies. It is about putting a face and a name to each typology.
