I write because I want to move to PHP 8.0, since it came out quite a while ago and I am afraid that the PHP 7.4 that I am using now will be obsolete.
The case that at the time of passing to PHP 8.0 there are plugins that do not work, being also important plugins with updates every so often. I have tried it on a test page and seeing that they do not work in PHP 8.0, I have passed them back to 7.4. These are the plugins that I have tested so far and that do not work in PHP 8.0:
– Contact Form 7
– Contact Form CFDB7
– Seed Pro (basic version, not Premium) *
– Autoptomize**
* I have replaced the Seed Pro with the Maintenance plugin, which does work for PHP 8.0.
** In Autoptomize, the web page loads perfectly, however CSS/JS cache flushing does not work. Could it be some incompatibility with the Varnish Cache plugin? On the official page of Autoptomize they put the question and the answer is that it is supposed to work perfectly with PHP 8.0 link
As for the plugins on the list, I have looked in the “change logs” section to see if the PHP 8.0 change appeared, and it does not appear (only in the Maintenance plugin, which does work for me as a substitute for Seed Pro). I find it strange that they don’t work with PHP 8.0.
Have you tested if these plugins work for you with PHP 8?
