Renfe freezes commuter fares for 2019

MADRID, 31 (SERVIMEDIA)

Renfe will freeze in 2019 the rates of the public rail services of Cercanías and Metric Gauge, which account for more than 80% of train trips in Spain.

The prices of the multi-trip vouchers for the Avant trains and the Conventional Media Distancia trains for 2019 will also be maintained. In this way, recurring travelers will be favored, that is, those who use these services the most and who buy tickets for 10 or more trips.

The fares, in force as of January 1, 2019, update the single tickets or base fare and the return tickets of the Avant and Media Distancia Conventional upwards (7% and 3.5% more respectively).

The last time the rates for public rail passenger transport services were updated was in 2015. Tickets for all public services operated by Renfe, and declared as public service obligations (OSP), were then increased by 1, 85%, a figure similar to that of the increase in 2014.

NEW CARD

In addition, for 2019 recurring travelers of Avant services will have a new Voucher of 10 trips to spend in 45 days. The Plus 10 Card will allow savings of 35% compared to the base rate and was created to favor discounts for customers who until now used the round trip rate, as they have more days to use it.

This new voucher is added to those already existing in the Avant services: Passes between 30-50 trips with a validity of 30 days, and which represent discounts of between 52% and 60%; or Vouchers 10 valid for 8 days, which represent savings of 56% compared to the base rate. It must be taken into account that more than 54% of travelers use the Avant service “very frequently”, that is, at least once a week.

Also as of January 15, travelers on the Madrid-Cuenca and Madrid-Salamanca services will be able to enjoy the Avant multi-trip tickets, once they have been included in the list of public obligation services (OSP), which will mean obtaining discounts from between 50.2% and 68.8%, depending on the type of 10 Plus Card subscription used.

Thus, for example, a Madrid-Cuenca traveler who paid 22.90 euros each way with an Ave Voucher will pay 13.42 euros each way with an 8-day Plus 10 Card.

In the case of the new Avant Madrid-Salamanca service, which until now offered only Long Distance (Alvia) service rates, from costing 10.69 euros (one way) with an Ave Bonus it will go to 5.06 euros each way with a Pass Plus 50 trips.

Public rail passenger services subject to OSP are those that are the responsibility of the General State Administration (AGE) and provided by Renfe-Operadora.

The price update only refers to services that are the responsibility of the Government. The rates for Rodalies de Catalunya, which include the Cercanías de Barcelona and the regional trains that provide service in this autonomous community, are set by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
