How does Shopify vs. WooCommerce vs. cloudstore?

WooCommerce is not a program or an application itself, but rather a plugin for WordPress. In other words, it offers the possibility of “transforming” any site built on WordPress into an online store.

WordPress is a CMS ―content management system or, in Spanish, content management system― that has the characteristic of allowing the use of plugins to develop and edit web pages.

The main disadvantage is that you have to start from scratch, so the process can be a bit cumbersome. That is, you need to create, layout and design a website and each of its pages to be able to add the shopping cart later.

As having a WordPress site implies taking care of its maintenance, you will need to hire a (the server where your site will be hosted), set up the site, design it, layout it and modify the necessary code.

After you have done all this you will be able to install the WooCommerce plugin and start selling.

With Tiendanube and Shopify easily, you upload your products, decide how to charge, how to deliver them and that’s it, you’re already selling! With WooCommerce, on the other hand, you need a site built on WordPress (and take care of maintaining it).

WooCommerce costs vs. Shopify vs. cloudstore 2022

Let’s review the prices of these three platforms and the factors that can influence them.

How much does WooCommerce charge to use it?

Calculating the price of setting up a WooCommerce store is particularly difficult. While the plugin itself is free, there are many factors to consider that can make up the total investment you make in your store.

This will depend on the server where your page is hosted, the development and maintenance costs, the monthly price of the different plugins you buy and the sales commission charged by the chosen payment operator, among others.

How much does Shopify charge per month?

Shopify has three plans with different prices:

  • the Basic Plan costs $29 per month plus a 2% transaction fee;
  • the Shopify Plan is $79 per month and 1% transaction fee;
  • the Advanced Plan is $299 per month plus a 0.5% transaction fee.

It also has the Shopify Lite plan for $9 per month. With it, you can add products to previously developed websites.

The cost is one of the disadvantages of Shopify, in the context of Argentina. The prices of their plans are based on dollars and this currency has an increasing trend with respect to the local currency.

What are Tiendanube prices?

At Tiendanube we also offer multiple plans to provide a solution tailored to each stage and type of business:

  • Basic: costs $599 per month plus 2% transaction fee;
  • Full: $1,499 per month with a transaction cost of 2%;
  • Plus: it is worth $3,999 per month and its cost per transaction is 1%;
  • Advanced: costs $12,999 per month with a transaction fee of 0.5%.

If your business needs specialized attention, there is Cloud Store Evolution, a personalized plan to meet the needs of your business. No plan has limits on the number of products, visits or sales.

includes all the functions and applications available from the moment of the creation of your web page with shopping cart.

The main advantage of Tiendanube is that it offers a local solution, with prices in Argentine pesos and a robust and intuitive product capable of adapting to all types of businesses: from micro-enterprises to multinational companies.

Easy to use

Installation and onboarding

WooCommerce

As we said before, WooCommerce runs on top of WordPress. This means that before you can start selling, you are going to have to develop a site on this platform.

We are not going to expand here, about everything that implies , but in broad strokes it would be:

  1. Choose and buy a domain.
  2. Choose and buy a hosting service.
  3. Design the site (how it will look).
  4. Layout the site (that is, transform the design into a real web page).
  5. Install the WooCommerce plugin.
  6. Manually configure payment and shipping methods.
  7. Upload the products.

Shopify

To start selling on Shopify, you first have to complete a few questions related to your business sector and your experience in e-commerce.

After that, a form follows in which they ask for personal data, such as name, address, although you can skip this step. Finally, you will be able to enter your store panel to start configuring it and start selling.

storecloud

In , on the other hand, you only have to tell us three things: the name of your brand, your email and your password to access.

Later we will ask for your name, WhatsApp and social networks to integrate them into your store, but this step is optional and you can skip it. That easy? Yes, it’s that easy!

Control Panel

WooCommerce

In WooCommerce, after you install the plugin on your site, the general admin or control panel will be automatically added to the left sidebar characteristic of WordPress.

In general, three tabs are added by default to this menu: one called “WooCommerce”, another as “Products” and a last one called “Analytics”.

  • In the “WooCommerce” section you are going to do all the configuration of the store itself: in which country and currency you want to sell, what will be your payment and shipping methods, etc.
  • The “Products” section is quite self-explanatory: there you will find everything related to the configuration of the products of your store.
  • In the last one, “Analytics”, is where all the dashboards (panels) and metrics are so you can understand the performance of your store.

WooCommerce can be more complex to manage than Shopify and Tiendanube.

📝 A word of clarification: as with any WordPress page, there are countless plugins and extensions that will allow you to change everything, including this control panel that WooCommerce comes with by default.

Shopify

On the home page of the Shopify admin, you will find 6 tips to start setting up your online store. These steps are to add a product, customize the theme, add pages, organize navigation, and place a test order.

In the vertical menu on the left there is information about your orders, products, customers and statistics, among others. These panels contain relevant data for daily management.

Then there are the “Sales Channels” and “Applications” sections. In the first, you have access to the templates of your website, your blog, content pages, etc. In the second, you will be able to add third-party integrations to your e-commerce site.

Finally, in “Settings”, it is where you can make adjustments to your profile, personal information and other points such as billing, domains, discounts or taxes.

storecloud

Among the most widespread, stands out how simple and intuitive it is to work with the administrator panel.

The first thing you will see is a home screen with some tips to help you understand what steps you have to complete to have your online store 100% optimized and start selling in a simple, agile and accessible way.

These tips include choosing a design, adding your logo and products, setting up a payment method and shipping method.

The menu itself is divided into four main axes: the first includes the home page and “Statistics”, where you will quickly understand the performance of your store. The other three big categories are “Manage”, “Customize” and “Boost”.

  • In “Manage” you will find all the information regarding your sales, products, customers and marketing (that is, the discount coupons or promotions that you have created).
  • Under “Customize” you will be able to modify the design of your store, the content of the pages, the menus, the contact information and even put a “Page under construction” notice while you make adjustments to it.
  • Finally, in “Enhance”, you have an application store with different solutions to take your business to the next level and integrations with all your other sales channels (Facebook, Instagram, Google, among others).

To close this section, we can conclude that Shopify and Tiendanube are ideal platforms for people who do not have programming knowledge, while WooCommerce is more complex and requires the work of a web developer.

Administration and product management

WooCommerce

As we told you, to get to the management panel of your products in WooCommerce you have to go to the “Products” section, located in the left sidebar of your WordPress page.

There you will find different sections to manage both your products themselves and the categories, labels and product attributes (such as the size of a t-shirt, for example).

As for your itself, you will also see many options when you want to upload a new product. There are settings related to…
