Social Security reminds you that you can benefit from this supplement in your pension: requirements

Social Security recalls that some people can benefit from a special supplement that increases the amount to be received in the pension. This is a benefit that can only be given to one of the two parents: the supplement to reduce the gender gap.

In principle, it is aimed at women, “who suffer more in their working life the impact of having a child,” they explain from Social Security. However, parents can also request it as long as they have been more harmed in their career.

As explained by the Administration, when neither of the two parents has been harmed by having periods without contributions or by reductions in work, this benefit is awarded to the mother. However, in the case of two women, the benefit will be directed to the one with the lower pension amount.

The supplement starts from a fixed amount of 378 euros per year, per child, up to a maximum of four children. For this purpose, a woman with a child will have 27 euros per month more in her pension; with two children, she will have 54 euros more per month, and so on. The benefit will be paid in 14 installments and is processed together with the pension application at the National Social Security Institute.

Who can apply for this benefit?

Not all fathers and mothers can receive this supplement, in order for them to request it, one of these assumptions must occur:

– Cause a widow’s pension due to the death of the other parent by the sons or daughters in common, provided that one of them is entitled to receive an orphan’s pension.

– Causing a retirement pension or permanent disability and having interrupted or having seen their professional career affected by birth or adoption, with certain conditions related to the contribution.

However, the Administration does not recognize the right to the supplement to that parent who has been deprived of parental authority. Neither can the father who has been convicted of violence against women, exerted on the mother, be able to request it.

Likewise, the parent who has been convicted of exercising violence against the sons or daughters will not have the right to receive it.

Can it supplement any pension?

It must be taken into account that this supplement is aimed at contributory pensions, permanent disability, widowhood or early retirement or not.

However, partial retirement does not generate the right to receive this benefit, although it will be useful when, from partial retirement, full retirement is accessed once the corresponding age has been reached in each case.
