Sonae Arauco invests 25.3 million to expand and digitize its Linares plant

Sonae Arauco will invest 25.3 million euros in its ‘Linares 2025’ project, with which it intends to expand, modernize and incorporate industry 4.0 solutions to its wood products manufacturing plant. The creation of 50 jobs is contemplated during the construction phase and 225 direct and induced during the development of the new activities. It will be put into operation in the period between 2022 and 2025.

Sonae Arauco, with industrial operations headquarters in Linares, Valladolid and Cuéllar (Segovia), is one of the world’s leading producers of wood-derived boards. Its turnover reaches 800 million euros and employs more than 3,000 people. The company works with different types of wood from sustainable forests, mainly from Spain.

The Linares production center occupies an area of ​​260,000 square meters, generates 226 direct jobs and 2,260 indirect jobs and has an asset value of 141 million euros.

The factory has been in Linares for twenty years, in a bet of the Portuguese group Sonae. In 2016, the group sold 50% of its board business to the Chilean multinational Arauco, including its Linarense assets in the operation.

In 2018 a plan to remodel its centers in Spain with industry 4.0 criteria. Now comes the turn of Linares.

The company’s project has been included in the Project Accelerator Unit of the Junta de Andalucía within the guidelines established by the Crece Industria 2021-2002 Action Plan, which proposes the improvement of the institutional environment to promote the development of the industry in community. For this, the activity of this accelerator unit is aimed at favoring investment projects that generate wealth and employment for Andalusia to be processed before the Administration with agility and efficiency.

This body dependent on the Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administration and the Interior will provide assistance and advice to the people or entities promoting the projects on all the necessary procedures for the effective start-up and execution of the project. Likewise, it will coordinate with the different ministries and instrumental entities with powers over the procedures that affect investment initiatives.

So far, the Project Accelerator Unit is processing 56 projects grouped into 23 relevant initiatives for Andalusia that add up to an investment of 6,421.4 million.
