SP48, a unique Ferrari made to measure for the client

If owning a Ferrari is already something very exclusive, imagine having a unique car, of which only one unit will be made and which is also made based on the specific tastes and interests of its buyer. That is what Ferrari calls a “one-off” vehicle, a tailor-made car, like the new SP48.

Ferrari has a department specialized in the production of unique vehicles made directly following the guidelines of its clients. In the same way that tailored shirts or suits are made, there are customers who want a unique car, and this SP48 is the latest example of the work of this Maranello department. It is a two-seater sports car with an 8-cylinder engine, with a double turbocharger of 721 horses, of which only this unit will be made.

The SP48 Unica has been created at the Ferrari Stile Center under the direction of its Chief Designer Flavio Manzoni. It is a two-seater sports berlinetta based on the F8 Tributo platform. Its taut lines and aggressive attitude make it immediately recognizable, thanks also to its sharp front end. The headlights have also been redesigned and the brake air intake has been repositioned.

Parametric modeling techniques have been used in the design of this vehicle, which has allowed the Maranello technicians to completely redesign the shape of the grille and the engine air intakes. This state-of-the-art production process allowed for the perfect 3D grille to be created, conveying a sense of continuity and dynamic fluidity.

The most obvious changes compared to the F8 Tributo are air intakes in the front bumper and under the rear spoiler to cool the engine. Each intake has a deep grill whose orientation is optimized in each section to maximize airflow. Its configuration allows an air intake dedicated to cooling the intercoolers to be placed immediately behind the side windows. This has made it possible to reduce the size of the air outlets on the sides. Also the increase in the rear overhang reduces the suction of the roof area to the benefit of the rear load.

Exclusiveness

The customization of the interior, which maintains a substantial identity with that of the F8 Tributo, is based on the elimination of the rear window and an exclusive combination of colors and upholstery to offer that sporty and aggressive touch. of the SP48 Unique. And without a doubt the most striking thing is the black Alcantara finish with laser perforations that cover most of the seats. Under these perforations you can see the red to orange iridescent fabric in the same color as the bodywork.

Outwardly it stands out for a very exclusive metallic orange color and for its changed air intakes.

Its design is inspired by the hexagonal shape of the grilles and the roof livery, giving the car an interesting effect of continuity between interior and exterior. Stepping into the SP48 Unica, polished end caps with the same laser-printed hexagonal pattern also catch the eye. The matte carbon fiber that embellishes the interior gives the cabin a more technical touch.

Ferrari has not revealed its price. But so that our readers can get an idea, the F8 Tributo, which is its starting point, costs 240,000 euros as standard. In this case, the price of the F8 would have to add the work of a team of ten people working for more than half a year to finish building this unique unit. Hence the price is really incalculable.

The previous vehicle developed by this department and with this unique vehicle concept was the BR20, a two-seater coupe based on the platform of a series production model, the GTC 4 Lusso. The BR20 provided a completely different bodywork that perfectly combines a dynamic and modern appearance with a style inspired by the Ferraris of the 50s and 60s. And the result is spectacular, which demonstrates the good taste of the customer who made the order. As for its mechanics, an impressive 690-horsepower V12 engine
