State of the Internet connection in the world: Spain, 7th country with the highest fixed Internet speed (2022) – Marketing 4 Ecommerce – Your online marketing magazine for e-commerce

If until recently the speed of the internet connection could seem like an insignificant fact, with confinement and the rise of teleworking we have learned that on many occasions it is an indispensable factor. In addition, it must be taken into account that some technological giants such as Google adjust their content based on different internet connection speeds, especially in areas with limited connectivity, and in the midst of the era of artificial intelligence, the internet of things and remote work, this fact becomes even more important.

The global average speed has decreased for both mobile and fixed internet

Year after year, WeAreSocial and Hootsuite they present their Digital Global Overview, with which they show an account of the state and performance of the digital ecosystem in the world. In this 2022 edition, the report has shown a drop in the average internet download speed, both on mobile devices and fixed connections.

As we can see in the previous graph, the average download speed on the mobile internet at a global level is at an average of 69.92 Mbps, which represents a growth of 53% compared to the previous year. Likewise, the average upload speed and latency present values ​​of 14.01 Mbps and 36 Ms.

Now, in terms of fixed Internet download speeds, the world average is 120.33 Mbps, 31.4% more than the previous year. Likewise, the upload speed has been positioned at 67.15 Mbps with a latency of 18 Ms. This in a year-after-year perspective has been considered as a large growth, except in the case of latency, where the values ​​have decreased .

Spain falls to 27th place in mobile connection speed worldwide

In terms of mobile connection speed, among the three leaders we find United Arab Emirates, South Korea and China, who have 136.4 Mbps, 104.9 Mbps and 96.8 Mbps respectively (taking the median value in each country as a reference). In this way, the main leaders remain the same as the previous year with some changes in the closest positions, such as the Netherlands, which rises to fourth place. Spain for this year it drops from 22nd position, now ranking 27th with a speed of 34.30 Mbps.

On the other hand, facing the countries with the slowest connection, we find a strong presence of Middle Eastern countries. The last two being Afghanistan and Palestine, with speeds of 5.24 Mbps and 5.28 Mbps respectively. Likewise, in third to last place is Venezuela with a mobile connection speed of just 5.76 Mbps.

Spain is among the top 10 countries with the highest fixed internet connection

For the fixed internet connection, Spain has risen three places (7th) compared to the previous year, thus maintaining its position within the top 10 countries with the highest speed, with an estimated 131.46 Mbps. Likewise, among the leaders of the ranking we find already familiar countries such as Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Again, at the bottom of the list, we find countries in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America presenting the lowest speeds. Afghanistan, Cuba and Turkmenistan close the ranking with connection speeds of 1.67 Mbps, 1.90 Mbps and 1.98 Mbps.
