Técnicas Reunidas wins a €900 million project in Poland

Técnicas Reunidas has been selected by the Polish company PKN Orlen to carry out the expansion of the industrial complex that it owns in the city of Plock (Poland).

The agreement was made public today at an event organized at the industrial plant facilities in which Jacek Sasin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Heritage participated; Daniel Obajtek, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PKN Orlen; Chang Hag Kim, President of Hyundai Engineering and Juan Lladó, Executive President of Técnicas Reunidas.

The project, which will involve an investment of around 1,800 million euros, will mean that Técnicas Reunidas will win half of the contract and will make it possible to maximize PKN’s petrochemical potential through the addition of new capacity to existing facilities. In this way, it will contribute to improving the balance of the European country in this field of activity.

One of the most relevant aspects included in the project is full respect for the most demanding requirements in terms of environmental protection, in line with those that are part of the community regulations in this field. In this regard, the plant will be one of the most technologically advanced in the world. The investment will integrate petrochemical operations with the production of clean fuels and will optimize the use of raw materials and resources in both processes.

The project for which Técnicas Reunidas has been selected as “preferred bidder”, and which the Spanish company will develop in association with Hyundai Engineering, involves an EPCC (“engineering, procurement, construction and commission”) type contract, which implies the full execution of the project. This will include, in particular, a new olefin production unit with technology license from KBR and a product recovery system.

This agreement confirms that the increase in the demand for petrochemical products is consolidated on an international scale as a consequence of the economic recovery after the pandemic, the growth of the world population and the greater needs for critical industrial materials.

After the event, Juan Lladó highlighted that this project “represents important recognition of the technological capacity of Técnicas Reunidas and the professional competence of our engineers. It is part of the growth process that our portfolio of projects and tests is currently experiencing the effort we have made to make petrochemical activities compatible with the objectives of the energy transition”.
