Climate change and the high temperatures recorded in various parts of the Spanish geography have caused, in recent days, black flies to be seen in regions where they did not used to appear before. An autochthonous insect but one that used to inhabit the banks of rivers and rural environments and against which it is convenient to protect oneself to avoid its consequences.

“The black fly is a saw-shaped bite that leaves a bleeding and extremely painful cut that can become infected,” remarks Anecpla, the employers’ association of companies that combat insect pests. Where do black flies appear?

“Its life cycle, which can last from a few days to several months, can be reduced by half when it is very hot, as happened last week, thus producing a demographic boom and, consequently, an increase in bites,” they continue. from Anecpla to explain why they have abandoned their usual environments.

Originating on the banks of rivers, where they reproduce, these black flies were frequent in rural environments, although in the last week they have been seen in areas of the cities of Zaragoza, Valladolid, Tortosa and Madrid (in the Villaverde neighborhood).

Tips against his bite

Without scratching, in the case of suffering a bite, from Anecpla they advise applying ice or an ointment on the damaged surface. In addition, in case of headaches or pain, it is best to go to a hospital to be treated immediately and avoid greater ills.

For its part, to avoid a fateful encounter with this insect, which acts during the day and can be introduced through clothing, it is recommended to wear light clothing, without flashy colors, avoid walks along the banks of rivers late in the afternoon and Install mosquito nets on doors and windows.
