It’s official. As of this Wednesday, June 5, you can already contract the Telefónica on-demand service that aspires to compete against since it does not matter what telephone service you have contracted at home.
Due to the novelty of the movement, the flood of alternatives that exist in video on demand or if you are a user of any of the Fusion modalities, it is worth considering whether it is worth trying the new Movistar service. However, before making the leap, it will be necessary to know all the details surrounding the over-the-top (OTT) application of the teleco.
· How much does it cost? Movistar+ Lite is priced at 8 euros per month, the first being free.
· Can the account be shared? The service allows two simultaneous content reproductions.
· That you can see? It has 8 live channels: #0, #Vamos, Movistar Series, Movistar Seriesmanía, FOX, TNT, Comedy Central, AMC; as well as an on-demand catalog based on these channels and Movistar’s own and licensed content.
It will be possible to access both the company’s own catalog and the associated channels. The aspiration is to “offer a bit of everything”, they explain from the company, which is why it is based on three main pillars: Entertainment, Fiction and Sports.
Within the first one you can find own shows and those of third parties such as La Resistencia, Late Motiv, Ilustres Ignorantes, Radio Gaga, El Cielo puede esperar, Fama, Tabú, Cuando ya no esté, Leaving Neverland or Serengeti.
In Fiction you can find international series on which Movistar has exclusive broadcast rights such as: The good fight, Billions, Victoria, The truth about the Harry Quebert case or The Young Sheldon. FOX, TNT, Comedy Central and AMC series such as Vis a Vis, Walking Dead, the end of Big Bang, The Rockie, Comedy Central News, NOS4A2 or Fear the Walking Dead. As well as all of Movistar’s own production such as Instinto, Arde Madrid, Gigantes, El Embarcadero, Félix, Merlí sapere aude, El día de mañana, Look what you’ve done, Shame, or On death row. The company has promised to continue expanding its catalog with series and films, such as While the war lasts, its first film, which is directed by Alejandro Amenábar.
In Sports, within #Vamos there will be the programs El Día Después, Informe Robinson, Generación NBA, El Partidazo de #Vamos or Bakalá. Likewise, it will have retransmission of sports competitions in which LaLiga or Champions, except for exception, will be left out. It will broadcast live basketball matches (NBA, All Stars, NCAA, Endesa League, Endesa Super Cup and Copa del Rey), tennis (Wimbledon, Masters 1000 and ATP 500), soccer (Serie A and Ligue 1), American football (NFL and SuperBowl), rugby (6 Nations, The Rugby Championship, 7 Series), athletics (Diamond League) and motor (Indycar).
· Does it include ads? Yes. As in the Movistar+ application, there will be advertising in the menus, in live broadcasts and before the on-demand content begins to play.
· In what quality is it issued? Do you have a recording, original version or subtitles? All the broadcast will be in HD, if you want to see the content in higher quality it will be necessary to hire Fusion.
All the content can be seen either in Spanish or in the original version, with subtitles, on video on demand, with 5S accessibility and without the need for a connection if it has been saved before. At the moment it will not be possible to record the content, access the content broadcast in the last week or have personalized profiles, although it will arrive “soon”, explains Telefónica.
· From where can you see? From the Movistar+ iOS or Android application, from the website ver.movistarplus.es; from Samsung, LG, Sony, Philips or Panasonic smart TV apps; from Amazon Fire TV or Android TV devices. Both Apple TV and Google Chromecast are out for the moment.
· What do I need for discharge? Telefónica will require name, surname, email, credit or debit card and ID. The requirement of the national identity document occurs because each user will have an associated mobile phone line. The company will not charge anything if the user does not use it.
· What are the conditions of the associated mobile rate? The associated mobile line has a call rate of 0 cents per minute (40 cents for establishment). If it is not used, it will not be charged. If you want to use it, you will have to go to a store to pick it up.
· Is there a permanence commitment? No. The user can unsubscribe at any time he wishes. When this cancellation is processed, the associated mobile line will also be cancelled.
· How is it different from the Movistar+ application? Movistar+ Lite is an exclusively online product that can be contracted with any operator. Movistar+ on devices is a service included in the Fusion rates that allows access to television content that is already contracted in the Movistar rate on up to four devices.
· Is there a discount for being from Movistar? No. The service treats telecommunications customers the same as those of other companies.
· Can it be viewed from outside Spain? Yes. Due to European legislation it can be seen throughout Europe the same as in Spain.
I have Fusion, is it worth it?
Although Movistar+ Lite is oriented towards those users who have not contracted anything with the telco, it is also worth asking if those customers who have Movistar services are interested.
It will not be interesting if you have a contracted Fusion pack since in any case it will include at least channels #0 and #Vamos, two of the pillars of Movistar+ Lite. In addition, when viewed from the decoder, you will have a better quality broadcast and with the possibility of accessing the functions of the Last 7 days, as well as recording the content.
If you have contracted a product that does not include television, you might be interested in the service. In this way, customers would have to value the Movistar+ Lite offer in the same way that they would with a service like Netflix or HBO, due to the catalog it offers.
