The Seat León offers five types of engines: what is yours?

The new Seat León offers many possibilities in terms of engines. Conventional heat engine, gas or with different levels of electrification. There is an option for every user.

The coronavirus has eclipsed its coming-out, but the reality is that the Seat León, in case anyone still doesn’t know it, is one of the great launches so far this year. The fourth generation of the Spanish compact has just arrived on the market this month as a complement to its other two brothers from the VAG group (the new and ). The three have been renewed to continue giving war in the C segment.

The offers the widest range of mechanical possibilities to date. Of all its qualities, this is the one that we highlight in this article, since it can be a great advantage for those clients who, in this moment of uncertainty, do not know which option to opt for. And we are not saying it in this case because of the happy virus, but because of the changing market trend in terms of propulsion systems.

The fourth-generation Leon offers eleven different mechanical variants, which are grouped into the following sections: gasoline (TSI), diesel (TDI), Compressed Natural Gas (TGI), ‘Mild Hybrid’ or microhybrid (eTSI) and plug-in hybrid PHEV ( eHybrid). In this way, the only thing that would be left out of the offer is normal or self-recharging hybridization (the type of engines that Toyota sells, for example) and 100% electric technology. The first does not interest the VW group; the second, however, yes. And although it is not present in the Leon, it will be in models like the Seat el Born, which we will see very soon on the market.

These are the engines available in the new Seat León

TSI gasoline

It is the most extensive section, with five options to choose from, all of them with turbo and direct injection.

The access step is the block 1.0 three-cylinder, which comes with two power levels (90 and 110 CV). Following in its wake, the 1.5 of 130 and 150 CV are considered as two more capable options and with consumption levels very similar to those of both 1.0. At the top is the 2.0 TSI of 190, which is associated in any case with the DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.

TDI diesel

In this section we find a single block, the well-known 2.0 TDI, which allows you to choose between two power levels (115 and 150 CV). Both have a double SCR catalyst to reduce Nox emissions and, in some way, they want to make it clear that diesel engines still have a long way to go on the automotive scene.

The most powerful allows you to choose between manual or automatic DSG transmission (the 130 CV can only be manual) and, if it is associated with the Sportstourer family body, it has 4Drive all-wheel drive.

hybrids

How could it be otherwise, the new Leon has been hybridized with engines that will probably be the most in demand due to the advantages they offer in terms of efficiency and environmental classification.

The starting point is the ‘Mild Hybrid’ or microhybrids, which, under the name eTSI, combine a TSI gasoline engine with a 48 V electrical system. They are the eTSI engines, of 110 and 150 hp, which obtain the label ‘ ECO’ of the DGT.

The next step is the plug-in hybridization of the 1.4 eHybrid version of 204 CV, which achieves a purely electric autonomy of 60 kilometers and obtains the ‘0 Emissions’ environmental label.

Compressed natural gas

Another way to access the ‘ECO’ label is through the 130 CV 1.5 TGI version, which offers up to 440 km of autonomy with CNG tanks and additional autonomy with the gasoline tank.

This is how the range of engines remains with all its versions.
