The average gross ordinary salary in the European Union in 2021 was 2,194 euros per month, while in Spain it was 1,751 euros per month. These 443 euros per month difference (or 5,316 per year) represent a gap of 20.2%, according to data published by The Adecco Group Institute, in its third part of the .
The report, according to the study center, is based on data from the Quarterly Labor Cost Survey (INE) and Eurostat. Thus, they have been able to establish a comparison between the salaries of the 27 countries that make up the European Union.
In this way, the report establishes that Spain is in an intermediate situation in terms of remuneration on the continent. There are 11 European countries whose salaries exceed the Spanish average and another 15 whose averages are lower.
In first place is Luxembourg (3,502 euros gross per month), followed by Denmark (3,458), Germany (3,003) or Ireland (2,920).
Neighboring countries, such as France (2,446) or Italy (2,074) also exceed the Spanish average. On the other hand, others, such as Portugal (1,106) or Greece (1,034) are below.
In the last positions, Bulgaria (562), Romania (718), Hungary (798) or Poland (833) do not manage to exceed 1,000 euros gross per month.
With these figures, Adecco highlighted the disparity that exists between the average salaries of each EU country, with differences of up to 2,940 euros when comparing the average salary of Luxembourg, of 3,502 euros per month, and that of Bulgaria, of 562 euros a month.
In the Spanish case, there is a “clear advantage compared to the countries of Eastern Europe, but it is unfavorable compared to the most advanced countries of the EU”, as explained by Adecco.
