How to temporarily remove a URL from Google search
You can access this tool from the “Index” menu found in Google Search Console, in the “URL Removal” section that is located just below the Sitemaps and Coverage menu.
When removing URLs with this tool you should keep in mind that these “temporary removals” don’t hide the URL from Google’s index watch forever: it will only hide it for about six months from search results, with the idea that you make the necessary improvements before it reappears. If you still need to get rid of it in the future, you should block it permanently.
There are two options when temporarily removing a URL in Search Console:
- Temporary URL removal: which will hide the specific URL from Google search results for six months, deleting the cached copy of this page.
- Clear URL cache: As the name suggests, it clears the cached page, as well as its featured snippet from search results, until the page is crawled again.
Removal of outdated content
The section dedicated to obsolete content in Search Console you can find information about content removal requests that have been requested by any user, because said content It’s no longer on your website but it still appears in search results.
Safe search filters
Finally, the safe search filters section will show you if some of your content has been reported as adult content by any user through the SafeSearch suggestion tool. These reports refer to the content reported and, after being reviewed, has been labeled as adult content, and therefore they have been filtered from Google search results.
As you can see, with this new tool, in addition to being able to quickly remove a URL from Google search, you will also be able to know in detail the obsolete or inappropriate content that others have requested to moderate.
