This is the change in the date of collection of unemployment and SEPE subsidies

More than two years after the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the world is trying to return to normal as far as possible, including in the administrative field. This is the case of the benefits paid by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), which begin to be paid as it was before March 2020.

Both the contributory unemployment benefit (unemployment) and the different unemployment subsidies or the Active Insertion Income have returned to their traditional collection date, between the 10th and 15th of each month and not at the beginning of the month as it has been doing for the last two years.

SEPE itself already warned of the situation a few weeks ago. In one it was reported that the payment of the different benefits would take place between the 10th and 15th of each month, although in “usual circumstances the payment of the benefits occurs on the 10th or, if it is a holiday, the next business day of each month”.

For the next month of June, this would mean that the payment of unemployment, subsidies or Active Insertion Income could take place on Friday, June 10 or, failing that, on Monday, June 13.

Due to the economic problems generated by the general stoppage at the employment level in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and the corresponding avalanche of unemployment benefits to be paid, SEPE signed agreements in May 2020 with CECA, the Spanish Banking Association (AEB ) and the National Union of Credit Cooperatives (UNAC) to commit to the payment of unemployment benefits “before the 7th of each month.”

The objective of this measure was clear: “Improve the liquidity of the beneficiaries of the unemployment benefits or subsidies managed by the SEPE, when due to the volume of applications submitted due to COVID-19 and the existing deadlines for the payment of the list of benefits make it important to facilitate and anticipate the liquidity of the benefits of the people affected”, explained at that time.

Which people were paid earlier than usual

According to what was explained by the SEPE, the beneficiaries of this measure were the people who, as of May 1, 2020, were recognized with an unemployment benefit or subsidy, although the right to the advance could only be exercised once from the first request.

These agreements were signed for renewable periods of three months, and after two years of the pandemic they were not renewed. However, if there are beneficiaries of benefits who have received payment in advance and have certain doubts about the payment date, they should contact their bank to confirm whether or not that payment date returns to its usual status.
