This is the ‘lego’ prefabricated houses: wooden bricks, sustainable, insulated and economical

Manufactured homes are the trend when looking for a new home. For this, the brands of this type of houses put a wide range of colors, shapes, types and models in their windows. There are some that are rustic, mobile, capsules and others that are assembled like legos.

The power of creativity has no limit. Even more so when trends focused on housing construction arise that make prototypes stand out with the naked eye.

In this scenario, the traditional houses take a step to the side and it is the modern houses, as in this case those that are ‘lego’ type, which by their construction leave the conventional and are positioned within the market.

This is how it is stated by the one that, within its objectives, seeks to build sustainable and customizable prefabricated wooden houses by joining pieces as if they were Legos.

wooden bricks

With its wooden bricks, the French company seeks to simplify the cost of energy, materials and the construction process. The signature brick can be used on its own, without lining, glue, screws or nails, guaranteeing the rigidity, performance and sealing of the home.

The Brikawood wooden brick is a wood mounting system that can be installed without nails, screws or glue, like an intuitive and logical game. “Our wooden brick allows the construction of passive houses with high energy efficiency, and can be adapted to all your architectural needs,” they say from the company’s website.

After 13 years of research and development, 11 patents and tests carried out with the CRITT Bois approved, the Brikawood wood brick has reached “technological maturity”, say its creators.

Composition of materials and operation

The brick is made up of 4 wooden elements, two lateral flanges and two transversal crossheads (differentials), machined in the form of “dovetail glue” that are assembled together, by interlocking, thus giving mechanical rigidity to the whole.

Brikawood brick is intended to be used alone, without lining, rain barrier or vapor barrier, just a specific check valve from the French company: this simplifies the execution of any type of construction, while ensuring performance and the tightness.

It is a system based on the assembly of wooden bricks, stacked in staggered rows by interlocking, one on top of the other, without fixing. They are held together by spacers that give the wall mechanical consistency and dimensional stability.

This structure allows you to enjoy a healthy environment with low energy consumption. Our load-bearing walls are breathable and, unlike the wooden structure, they are finished on the outside and inside.

How much they cost?

The prices of the Brikawood kits vary depending on the house: one floor, two or if they are customized.

The price is established per m2. Around 1,400 euros, for the prefabricated house with a single floor, and around 1,800 euros/m2, for the one with two floors. Finally, the price would be 1,500 euros/m2 for personalized homes and 1,000 euros per m2 for the BBC Studio Kit. and
