This is the new scam with Correos: the chat you talk to is a bot that steals your information

Correos has once again been widely detected in recent days, using its parcel notification service as an excuse for it. A phishing campaign that, as in other cases, is increasing due to the high number of company users who fall for such a trap by providing their personal data.

The growing habit of home delivery parcels to make online purchases has led to an increase in the attempt of cybercrime associated with this routine. Even more so with Correos, they have detected that the company is used as bait for clueless users.

And it is that receiving an email or message alerting of an error about a shipment can lead to doubts, especially if a package is pending. This is where the scam attempt begins, since the message states that the delivery is blocked due to a problem and a payment is required to unlock it.

No matter what is said to the bot, it will always lead to the same link to solve the problem

Offering an assistant to help, the chat you are referred to is actually a fake bot pretending to be from the Post Office. Service that regardless of the information provided, will always refer to the same link, where the scam continues.

Already on the next page to supposedly unlock the package, which continues although more basic, the form that is displayed asks for certain personal information such as the address (something that the company never requests).

Correos has never given away a mobile phone for using its services or anything similar

Finally, when you are going to pay for the unlocking, the web changes to one where it is reported that you have won a mobile phone (another thing that the Post Office never does). However, to receive it, you have to give the data again and enter the bank account number, the end of the scam and the reason why, if this is done, the cybercriminals will have achieved their objective with which to commit crimes.

As in all cases of phishing, extreme caution should be exercised regarding these habits, especially with companies that never proceed to inform or connect via email or SMS. Contacting the affected company to verify that the information is real may be enough to uncover fraud that is increasing due to the trust of users.
