This is the time it takes for Social Security to grant the Minimum Vital Income

Since its launch in mid-2020, the Minimum Vital Income has been one of the most outstanding benefits for the most vulnerable people. Close to 1.2 million beneficiaries, the intention is that it reaches more than two million people, as was predicted at the time of its implementation.

One of the problems that the applicant faces when requesting the Minimum Vital Income is managing the anxiety and uncertainty generated after the request for the benefit and until the moment in which the Social Security resolution arrives. How much time can the agency take to respond to the citizen’s request?

The Minimum Vital Income Law states that “the National Social Security Institute will proceed to issue a resolution, and notify the same to the applicant, within a maximum period of six months from the date of entry of the application in its registry.”

In the event that, after that time, the applicant has not received any notification, the Minimum Vital Income will be understood as denied due to administrative silence. All in all, explains the Social Security, “it will expressly resolve the applications presented, even if more than six months have elapsed since their presentation”.

How to find out the status of a Minimum Vital Income application

While the resolution arrives, the citizen can make use of a Social Security service that will allow him to know the status of his Minimum Vital Income application. Without the need for a digital certificate () or Cl@ve (), you can do it through the online procedures platform of the Minimum Vital Income, and following these steps:

How to claim if you are denied the Minimum Vital Income

In the event that Social Security rejects the granting of the Minimum Vital Income, the citizen has the option of making a written claim within 30 days. In it you must indicate your personal data, the origin of the claim, the allegations to the decision and the recipient of that claim.

Once the claim has been sent, the citizen has to wait a maximum of 45 days. If Social Security does not respond within that period, the claim will be understood as rejected due to administrative silence.
