This new drone concept is used for drug smuggling in Spain

As with almost any illegal activity, criminals have to find ways around security measures, with technological advances these techniques have become more sophisticated. A clear example of them can be seen in the latest intervention by the National Police, which has dismantled a trafficking network that used semi-submersible drones to introduce drugs into our territory.

The Strait of Gibraltar is one of the most popular routes for drug traffickers to introduce drugs into Spain and the rest of Europe. The coastal authorities are aware of this, and that is why they have entire teams and different methods to try to detect and seize these contraband while the traffickers invent new ways to pass their merchandise.

In fact, the latest intervention by the Police has discovered a technology that had never been used for smuggling before: semi-submersible drones. Until now, we all had a concept of drones as an unmanned aerial vehicle, however, this drug network had designed a drone that could go through water, with the advantage for criminals that no one had to expose themselves to physically drive it. .

These maritime drones could cross the Strait with around 200 kilos of drugs, mainly used for hashish smuggling. The operation was a joint operation between the National Police and the French authorities, since it is suspected that these drones were going to be delivered to a French criminal gang.

The investigation, which began 14 months ago, has resulted in the arrest of at least 8 individuals in the cities of Málaga, Cádiz and Barcelona, who, apart from building these drones, are accused of logistically helping organizations in France, Italy and Denmark.

During the arrest, which we can see in the video offered by the Police, the authorities have confiscated around 145 kilos of hashish, 8 kilos of marijuana and more than 157,000 euros in cash.

This police intervention has not only been very positive due to the confiscated elements, but also to warn that the trafficking of this type of substance can reach our territory through different routes and we must be attentive to all possibilities.
