Those affected by the Manufacturers’ Cartel can claim compensation until April 20

Individuals and companies that bought new vehicles between February 2006 and August 2013 from the brands involved in the so-called Car Manufacturers Cartel in this case until April 20, according to the Association of People Affected by the Car Cartel (AACC).

“It is very important at this time to paralyze the prescription of the action, because, once the one-year period has passed, those affected run the risk that they will no longer be able to claim,” explained Atilano Vázquez, partner at the firm Cremades & Calvo- put it down

With the numbers of adherents that the AACC currently manages, the claim against the manufacturers involved could exceed the amount of 200 million euros, an amount established on the extra price that those affected paid for the purchase of their vehicle.

Madrid, Andalusia and Catalonia are the autonomous communities in which the greatest number of claims have been collected, accumulating more than 50% and an approximate amount of 74 million euros. By brands, Seat, Citroën and Volkswagen are the ones with the most claimants attached to the AACC.

The National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) concluded in 2015 that the former PSA (now part of Stellantis), Ford, General Motors, Fiat, Nissan, Toyota, BMW and around fifteen other companies continuously exchanged confidential information to control the vehicle distribution market, as well as after-sales services for repair, maintenance and spare parts.

The regulatory body imposed the largest fine in its history on the manufacturers, 171 million euros distributed among 23 companies. The National Court confirmed the sanctions imposed by the CNMC in judgments handed down in December 2019, dismissing the appeals filed by the companies involved.
