What is Google Voice Access and how does it work?

Google Voice Access is an application that is used to control your phone using only your voice.

This allows people with problems handling the screen (Parkinson’s patients, for example), to use their mobile phone without problems.

Additionally, Google Voice Access is free. Do you dare to try it? You can download it for your Android mobile .

At the moment, it is not available for iPhone. If that is your case, you can use “Voice Control”, you will find it in Settings > General > Accessibility.

And, although Google Voice Access is designed for people with disabilities, it can be used by anyone. Find out how to take advantage of it.

How to set up Google Voice Access

When you run the app for the first time, it will ask you for accessibility permissions. Once you have accepted, begin configuring the application through a series of steps. In these steps, you will have to give it more permissions (such as, for example, being able to make calls) and little by little you will become familiar with how it works.

How Google Voice Access works

The app has a lot of features, so we’ll tell you some things you should know to use Voice Access like an expert:

  • You will see that it is activated when At the top of the screen a white bar appears with the colored Google dots moving.
  • If it isn’t, you can activate it by saying: “Ok, Google.”
  • You can say many things (now we will see some), but you will be able to see that when there are options like “Next”, “OK”, etc., on the screen, numbers appear. Saying the number next to each option activates it.
  • Look at the last screen in the image. It’s Twitter with Voice Access activated. Look at the numbers next to each option. Saying “eleven” you would write a tweet, saying “seventeen” you would go to your private messages…
  • You can say “Scroll down” or “Swipe up” to go down and up the screen.
  • If you touch the screen at any time, Voice Access disconnects and you regain touch control. You can reactivate again by saying “Ok, Google.”

Some more things you can do with Voice Access:

  • “Open (application name). Allows you to open any app, such as WhatsApp, Instagram or whatever you want.
  • “View notifications” displays the top menu as if you were sliding it down. You will be able to interact, again, using the numbers that appear next to each option.
  • “Turn up the volume” or “Lower the volume” to control the sound. Or “Put the volume on silent” so that the cell phone leaves us alone…

You have a large number of commands that you can use and they are quite natural. If you want to know everything you can do, or you’re a little lost, you can always connect Voice Access and say: “What can I say?».

You will see a screen with ideas and options to discover all the voice commands.

As you can see, Google Voice Access is a great tool so that everyone can use their mobile phone, even if they can’t handle the screen.
