Who can ask for the new help of 200 euros from the Government and how to do it?

The Council of Ministers approved this Saturday a second decree of its anti-crisis plan, in which it extended until the end of the year several of the measures of the first and added consumers. Another of the new initiatives announced was the creation of a 200-euro grant for people with low incomes, to alleviate in some way the loss of purchasing power caused by the price boom in recent months.

In the press conference after the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, did not go into details about who could receive the new aid, referring to the publication of the decree. This document has seen the light this Sunday, and includes the conditions in its article 31, where it establishes a “hotline to help individuals with a low level of income and wealth.”

540 million euros will be allocated to this item, which will be financed with an extraordinary credit to the Budget. Therefore, it is estimated that some 2.7 million people benefit from the aid.

What are the conditions to request the aid and what does it consist of?

The measure is specified as a single disbursement, at one time, of 200 euros, for each natural person who meets the requirements. The conditions are the following:

– Being in one of the following groups: 1) self-employed or employed by others registered with Social Security or mutual insurance; 2) unemployed registered at the employment office

– Have legal and effective residence in Spain currently and have had it continuously in the last year

– Not be collecting the minimum vital income, Social Security pensions or the Passive Classes Regime or similar

– Having had an income during 2021 of less than 14,000 euros per year

– Have assets of less than 43,196.4 euros per year.

The calculation for the last two points will be made by adding the income and assets of all the people who resided, as of January 1, 2022, at the same address as the applicant. These cohabitation units must be “united among themselves by marriage or an emotional relationship analogous to the conjugal one at least two years in advance or by kinship, up to the third degree, including related parties, with any of the above, as well as other people with those that any of the above live together by virtue of guardianship for the purpose of adoption or permanent family fostering”.

How to apply for help?

The request will be made electronically, through the Electronic Office of the State Tax Administration Agency. The form must be filled out and sent from that website before September 30. There it will be necessary to include the bank account where the beneficiary wishes to receive the income by bank transfer.

If the applicant does not receive the payment in the three months following his application, he must understand that the aid has been rejected. The entire procedure will be managed by the Tax Agency.
