WordPress “Post This” Tool – .com

In this tutorial we look at the unknown and underused WordPress “Post This” tool. What it is, what it is for, and how to use it correctly.

As you can see in the screenshot, we find it in “Tools / Available tools”. They define it as

“Post This” is a tool that allows you to capture chunks of the web and create new posts with ease. Use Post This to copy text, images, and videos from any Web page. Then correct and add more directly from Post This before saving or posting to a site post.

What are they referring to? Well, basically to “create a button” that will create a draft post of the page that we are viewing in our browser.

Installation and use

Installation is very easy, we just have to drag the “Post this” button to the bookmarks bar of our browser:

And that’s it! Now we will have a “direct access” that will help us to create posts from any page that we are viewing on the Internet. For example, if I go to my and while viewing it in my browser, I click on that newly created bookmark, I’ll see this below:

As you can see, the tool collects the information from that website, and creates a post with the most important content: The title, the featured image, the excerpt, and the origin of the news. It also allows us to modify the format, and establish categories and labels.

From here, we can publish it, or just save it as a draft. The same button even allows us to continue working in the traditional WordPress editor.

This tool has been around since the earliest versions of WordPress, but it wasn’t until they modified and improved it. Here you can see the

Possible uses of “Post this”

Well, as I always say, imagination to power. But basically there are a couple of clear uses.

The first is if we have a news “aggregator” website, in which we collect news on a subject. It is very comfortable for us to browse calmly and as soon as we see some interesting and related news, with a single click we can have our post published.

Another possibility would be as a “reminder” for article ideas. Sometimes, browsing the web we see an article, news or even a website, which gives us the opportunity to write an article, but we cannot do it at that moment. In order not to forget the idea, it is very comfortable to click, and save it as a draft.

That way, when we want to write and don’t know what to write about, we can turn to our drafts. By the way, I recommend the podcast, and the tutorial, where I talk more about this.

conclusion

The WordPress “Post This” tool allows us to create a draft post from any website we are viewing.

The main uses are both to mention and share news, and to use it as a base to write ours.

And as you already know, if you want to know more about WordPress, which surely may interest you 😉
