Acoustic course for podcasting #9. Audio repair – .com

In the ninth class of the acoustics for podcasting course we are going to see how we can fix the audios that, despite everything, have been recorded with errors.

And it is that sometimes we find recording errors that we cannot solve by re-recording and we have to repair them in post production.

Thanks to technology we can correct distortion problems, clicks, noise or even eliminate reverberation from a room that has not been acoustically treated. Let’s see it with practical examples!

We already have it! We finally know how to improve audio with those nasty bugs. Remember that this system cannot replace a correct recording and that you must pay all your attention at the time of recording to make the most of your equipment’s performance.

For those who have the possibility to practice with this type of plugins I propose the following practice:

  • Record a voiceover in a space with reverberation (bathroom, hall, or empty room) and try to reduce it.
  • Record a voice over with proximity effect and try to remove it with the HPF filter
  • Record with full gain so that it distorts, analyze it and try to correct it with the declipper you have.
  • Cut right and left in a piece of audio so that there are “Clicks” and play around with the declicker to see how its parameters work.
  • Record your room in silence with the gain turned all the way down and try to reduce the resulting noise with a denoiser without making it sound tinny.

There are many ways and plugins to repair audio although none are miraculous. The important thing is that you experiment with these tools so that you take them into account when it comes to the case that you cannot do anything else to correct a recording error.

Remember that the best way to fix an audio is from the moment of recording, so optimize your acoustics, start up the equipment and let’s record!

As always, if you have any doubt or question, you can send it through the support form of the subscriber intranet. See you in the next lesson! 🙂
