Apple Event: this is the new iPhone 13 and the surprises of the apple

The presentation of the new iPhone has returned to the traditional month of September, and although this will not be a revolutionary generation, it comes with several important innovations under its belt.

Today’s event has been special for Apple, for many reasons. Last year, Apple had no choice but to delay the presentation and launch of the iPhone 12 due to production problems associated not only with the pandemic, but also with the new design.

With the iPhone 13, based in large part on the advances of its predecessor, Apple has had the opportunity to ‘get back to normal’, and that has been reflected in the presentation itself, which has received the motto “California Streaming”.

The presentation began with a musical number, precisely putting the spotlight on natural landscapes and Californian cities. But soon the cameras focused on Tim Cook, CEO of the company, who took the opportunity to praise and explain the location of Apple Park, his home.

The first announcement had to do with Apple TV+, Apple’s original programming streaming service, which has already won several critical and audience awards in the two years it’s been running. Series premiering this fall include The Morning Show, Foundation, The Problem with John Stewart, Swagger, Finch, The Shrink Next Door, and more.

new ipad

Surprisingly, the first device introduced by Apple was the new iPad, despite rumors that it might be delayed to a second event in September. iPadOS has evolved a lot, adapting to the larger screen size; Apple claims that the iPad has grown 40% this year.

The most basic and cheapest model, known simply as the “New iPad”, will continue to be the entry point for many users into this ecosystem. Although it looks very similar to the previous one at first glance, inside it uses a newer processor, the A13 Bionic Engine, which makes it 20% faster than the previous generation. According to Apple, it is 6 times faster than the best Android tablet.

That means that, despite its price, the new iPad will allow us to run the most advanced applications such as Adobe Fresco and video games without problems. The new Neural Engine will allow you to use intelligent functions more quickly, and the new camera has autofocus; while on the front we now have a 12 MP camera with a 122-degree field of view, designed for making video calls. That is why it also wins the Center Stage function, which automatically adjusts the image depending on the people it detects, centering them in the video; it is compatible with apps like Zoom, and can also be used on TikTok.

TrueTone, the feature that adapts the color of the screen depending on the room, is also coming to the most basic iPad, as well as Apple and Logitech keyboards, and continues to be compatible with the Apple Pencil.

The new iPad will arrive with iPadOS 15, which finally adapts the iOS 15 widgets and improves multitasking, allowing us to divide the screen into two apps. The new iPad will be priced at $329, with double the basic storage, 64 GB.

New iPad Mini all screen

The iPad Mini will also receive a renewal, although in its case it will be more complete. The new model is completely different from the current one, with a design more similar to that of the iPad Pro. This means having an “all screen” front, without the edges of the current model, to achieve 8.3 inches in the same compact size; the screen boasts 500 nits of brightness and TrueTone. TouchID is not lost, but is integrated into the power button just like it is on the iPad Air.

The new iPad Mini will feature a new processor, representing a 40% improvement in performance over the previous generation, and an 80% improvement in 3D graphics, making it much more suitable for playing games on the go. And the neural engine is capable of translating spoken sentences in real time.

For connectivity, the iPad Mini will feature USB-C, thus ditching Apple’s Lightning port; now it is 10 times faster than its predecessor, and it is compatible with all types of devices such as cameras. This tablet will also be part of Apple’s commitment to 5G, allowing us to download data faster than ever.

The cameras have been improved: the rear is 12 MP with a larger aperture to get sharper photos, accompanied by a flash and compatible with Smart HDR to highlight the details. On the front, it uses the same 122-degree field-of-view 12 MP camera as the basic iPad, making it Center Stage compatible. The speakers are stereo and Apple promises a lot of power despite the size.

The new iPad Mini will come with new accessories, such as new covers, as well as the second generation of the Apple Pencil, which can be attached magnetically to the right.

The new iPad Mini will cost $499, available in WiFi or 5G versions.

New Apple Watch Series 7

The Apple Watch is the absolute dominator of the wearables market, thanks in large part to its health-related features.

Apple has added features for cyclists, including a fall sensor that allows us to automatically call emergencies, as well as new exercise cycles and compatibility with e-bikes.

Apple has taken advantage of today’s event to show the seventh generation and, surprisingly, all the rumors were wrong: the design has not changed compared to the previous generation, but instead the screen is much larger and reaches the edges of the device, with a curvature that joins with the side. No, the edges are not flat as expected, but there is some redesign of the parts, making them bigger.

The interface has also changed to take advantage of the larger screen, including a full-size keyboard that uses machine learning to recommend words, and new buttons. New watch faces use more screen real estate aesthetically and functionally, displaying more information or embedding data at the edge. Despite the larger screen, Apple promises it to be the toughest Apple Watch, with IP6X certification against dust and water resistance and a new scratch-resistant display cover. Charging is much faster, 20 minutes of charging allows you to use the watch for 20 hours.

Apple Watch Series 7 will be available in a variety of colors and new bands (although current ones will continue to be compatible), and is made from 100% recycled aluminum. The Series 7 will be available for $499, while the Series 3 and Apple Watch SE will continue to be available.

Apple Fitness+, the exercise and health subscription service, will be available in 15 more countries (unconfirmed in Spain), and in more languages with Spanish subtitles. It also gains new exercises like pilates, as well as meditation and calm exercises. On the occasion of the snow season, new exercises inspired by movement in the snow will be offered. And if we want to exercise with our friends, the new groups function will allow us to participate in the exercises together.

New iPhone 13

The iPhone could not miss this appointment, of course, and Tim Cook was in charge of showing the new iPhone 13. As rumored, the design does not vary much compared to the iPhone 12, except for some details, such as the new system of chambers that is now arranged diagonally; new colors are also available.

On the front, the notch is somewhat smaller thanks to the miniaturization of the components used for FaceID. And the chassis and parts are made from recycled components; inside, the components have been rearranged to accommodate a larger battery.

On the screen, it’s 20% brighter, peaking at 1200 nits in HDR10, but it’s also more efficient; the technology is OLED. Performance has also been improved, with a new chip, the A15 Bionic developed by Apple, based on 5nm technology to fit 15 billion transistors.

It has six cores, four of high efficiency and two more powerful, which allows to improve functions of Siri and applications such as Maps. According to Apple, that makes it 50% faster than the competition. The GPU is quad-core, obtaining a performance 30% higher than the competition, always according to Apple data.

The iPhone 13 cameras are the most advanced dual system yet, according to the company, thanks to the new 12 MP wide-angle sensor with a larger aperture for better performance in dark situations, the largest sensor Apple has ever put in a system. with two cameras. It has image stabilization, and will be available on the cheapest models, the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Mini.

The main 12 MP sensor has also been improved, while in video the big news is the new cinematic mode, which mimics a technique used by filmmakers in films, consisting of automatically changing focus depending on whether the algorithms detect the presence of eyes looking at the camera, or the closeness of objects. It also doesn’t matter if the subject is moving, the focus will automatically follow it, and it will also be able to detect when a subject enters the scene. This mode records in Dolby Vision HDR in real time.

Despite the improvements, the iPhone 13 battery is better than the previous model; iPhone 13 lasts 2.5 hours longer than iPhone 12, making it capable of lasting a full day of continuous use.

For privacy, Apple promises that Siri now doesn’t have to share our voice commands, as it is capable of interpreting them on its own with the power of the new chip. The iPhone 13 also continues Apple’s commitment to MagSafe, with a new wallet that we can find automatically.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini won’t cost more, at $699 and $799 respectively, but now storage starts at 128GB, with a new 512GB option added.

New iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max

Of course, where Apple has really thrown the rest is in the most cutting-edge models, which Tim Cook defined as “the most Pro iPhone in history.” As with the smaller brothers, the cameras are the big stars, with a new set bigger than ever, precisely because the sensors are bigger; that will force the use of new covers, since the cameras occupy half of the rear.
