Correos eliminates the payment and illegal prefix 902 and creates a new free customer service telephone number

The postal service has proceeded to remove the prefix 902 from its customer service line, which from now on will have the number 915197197 for all those questions with its service. A decision that comes after the , following a request from , demanded that the company eliminate this payment prefix because its price supposes “a cost higher than the basic rate”.

The 902 began to disappear from all customer service companies after it was ratified by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU). A ruling that is governed by the rule that after-sales services should not exceed the price of a standard telephone call, and that affects all companies except telecommunications, electricity and gas that are not obliged to offer free service.

The last to take advantage of this measure has been Correos, which is already advertising the new telephone number (915197197) on its website, and which in the coming days will have to correct the change of all the signs where the old prefix was.

Facua, the main person responsible for the change, has been requesting the elimination of 902 for a long time and already in 2017 sent the irregularity to the Community of Madrid. At that time, only a sanctioning file was opened against the courier company, which in 2020 has been forced to end the prefix by the Consumption order.
