The curpUnique Population Registry Code, is a code made up of 18-digit numbers and letters used by different institutions, public or private, to identify residents of the country, Mexicans or foreigners.
All countries have identification documents for their inhabitants and residents. In the case of Mexico, there are different documents that can serve as identification. However, when carrying out practically any procedure in a public or private institution, they will always request the curp.

What is CURP?
The CURP is a unique and unrepeatable code made up of 18 alphanumeric digits. The institute in charge of generating this code is the RENAPO, National Population Registry, which has the objective of guaranteeing the right to identity of people embodied in the Mexican constitution.
Its origin dates back to 1996, the year in which the Presidential agreement for the use of this code was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, which must be granted to:

- Date of birth (last two digits of the year, two digits of the month and two digits of the day)
- Letter that indicates the sex of the person: M for women and H for men
- Abbreviation of the Federal Entity of birth
- First internal consonant of the first surname
- First internal consonant of the second surname
- First internal consonant of the first name
- A number from 0 to 9 for those born before 1999 or a letter from A to Z for those born after 2000.
- Two digits that are randomly assigned to prevent two CURPs from being the same.
How to process the CURP for the first time?
It should be noted that all Mexicans born and registered in Mexico already have a CURP, as long as they are registered in the Civil Registry and have their birth certificate. Therefore, it is not necessary to process a CURP.
However, the CURP procedure for the first time is designed for Mexicans who, due to very special cases, do not yet have their CURP, because they were born in another country, or for foreign residents in Mexico.
