Health alert: these two popular drugs used to treat blood pressure withdrawn

In constant review of all the drugs that go on the market, due to the possible risk that they may represent for the population, the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has reported a new incident. Recalling through several batches, the institution has singled out two widely used stress-relieving products.

He has even had to review the AEMPS, dependent on the Ministry of Health, in recent days due to defects in the form of the Coaprovel and Karvezide drugs. Specifically, due to impurities above the accepted limit for the active ingredient irbesartan (medication used for high blood pressure), the batches reviewed by the institution have had to be withdrawn from pharmacies and specialized establishments.

Also requesting the autonomous communities to carry out an exhaustive follow-up of the evacuation of the drug, the AEMPS has also wanted to highlight that it proceeds to return these to the Melyfarma, Difarmed and Elam Pharma Labs distributors.

Impurity limits on irbesartan cannot exceed 0.320 parts per million

Both Coaprovel and Karvezide are used to treat blood pressure and are manufactured by the Sanofi-Aventis Groupe laboratory. Based in France, this company had exceeded the marked limits of impurities, set at 0.320 parts per million or 0.080 ppm, depending on the drug.
