How much does a master’s degree cost per community: 650 euros in the Canary Islands, more than 2,000 in Catalonia and Madrid…

Next Monday, the Ministry of Universities directed by Manuel Castells will propose to the autonomous communities that enable them to practice a profession. With the aim of equating its costs to those of a degree for the 22/23 academic year, this measure could affect the Spanish global where a master’s degree costs an average of 1,316 euros.

Spain is the seventh country in what a master’s degree costs in the entire European Union. An advance of the studies that, with the popularity (and massification) of the races, has gained a lot of weight since in 2012 the Autonomous Communities were allowed to set the public university prices. A phenomenon, leaving the cost in the hands of each region, which has caused great differences between them.

Catalonia and Madrid, due to the high demand and its wide range of offers to study and work, are the Spanish territories where it is most expensive to become a lawyer, architect, psychologist or the various careers that require a master’s degree to practice the profession.

The cost of the master’s degree in Castilla y León can sometimes exceed that of Madrid

Thus, with up to almost 2,500 euros (2,470.2 euros), the range of Catalan studies always sets this price for its public postgraduate courses. The most expensive region is also one of the five that does not change its cost, since in the remaining 12 there are maximums and minimums (in the 19/20 academic year, before the pandemic), .

A price, higher than 2,000 euros, that only Madrid (2,187.6) reaches, although the offer from the capital can reduce the cost to 1,454.4 euros at its minimum. This is not the case with Castilla y León, which, as in Catalonia, has fixed values, and marks its master’s degrees at 1,868.4 euros to close third place in the classification and surpass Madrid in some aspects.

In up to six regions, the qualifying master’s degree can cost less than 1,000 euros

La Rioja and the Balearic Islands have the other two large quotas that exceed 1,500 euros (1,830.6 and 1,612.2, respectively), although at their minimum prices drop to 1,177.2 and 1,382.4, respectively. A minimum that in its highest cost is also exceeded by Aragon, Extremadura, the Basque Country, Murcia and Navarra, the latter region being another of those that does not change its amounts (1,359 euros).

Therefore, at the tail of Spain is the Canary Islands as the CC.AA. that charges the least for taking a public qualifying master’s degree. With only 787.8 euros maximum, the prices of the lucky islands (pun intended) drop to 647.4 euros. Andalusia, Galicia, Castilla-La Mancha, the Valencian Community and Cantabria are the other territories that do not reach 1,000 euros, although in the case of the last three only in their minimums.
