Ibercaja helps the elderly to use digital banking

Ibercaja, Fundación Ibercaja and its Retirees Association have developed a volunteer program with the aim of reducing the digital gap that affects the elderly in the use of new technologies.

This initiative is launched to meet the current social demand for financial inclusion of the elderly and within the framework of the measures adopted in the agreement signed by the bank employers, Ibercaja recalled in a press release.

The training program is entitled ‘Connect with your bank’, which will be taught by the entity’s retired workers as of March 3. The purpose is to teach the use of digital banking channels. In this way, it is intended to reduce the digital knowledge gap of the elderly, making them aware of the importance of using the Internet and mobile devices to improve their autonomy.

In total, 22 free workshops will be given with prior registration, which will take place at the Ibercaja Foundation Centers in Zaragoza Actur, Huesca, Teruel, La Rioja and Guadalajara, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the morning.

The program start-up meeting, held in the Patio de la Infanta, Ibercaja’s headquarters in Zaragoza, was attended by Ibercaja’s Director of Marketing and Digital Strategy, Nacho Torre; the director of Fundación Ibercaja, José Luis Rodrigo, and the president of the Ibercaja Retirees Association, José Manuel Guzmán.

participatory character

Ibercaja’s Director of Marketing and Digital Strategy, Nacho Torre, highlighted the participatory nature of this initiative because, as he said, “digitization affects all areas of society, not just banking, and it is a reality that we can not deny”.

It has also stressed that more than 29 percent of this bank’s customers are over 65 and that currently 27 percent of Ibercaja customers in that age range use digital banking channels. For this segment, the entity has designed a simpler version for the use of its mobile app, called ‘Initiation Mode’, which allows older users to operate in a more intuitive way.

Willfulness

For his part, the director of the Ibercaja Foundation, José Luis Rodrigo, highlighted the voluntary nature of this initiative to bring training to all corners through the Foundation’s Centers.

“The demand for financial and technological education is very high and at the Foundation we cover that need while avoiding the dehumanization of relationships, with face-to-face training for our elders so that they learn to use new technologies in their day-to-day lives and thus stimulate their autonomy”, has sentenced.

Personal and human treatment

Finally, the president of the Ibercaja Retirees Association, José Manuel Guzmán, stated that they are “delighted” to be able to offer their knowledge to the elderly, thus continuing with the “personal, human and quality treatment” that they have come lending to all clients during their active years.

In the current context of demand for social and financial inclusion of the elderly, Ibercaja has stressed that it is one of the banks with the greatest presence in rural areas, where there are more elderly people.

ATMs and offices

In fact, Ibercaja has 374 branches and operational ATMs in 241 towns with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants throughout Spain. In these towns, which have a total of 123,430 inhabitants, Ibercaja serves a total of 117,853 clients, of which 43 percent are 65 years of age or older.
