Internet falls: an Akamai failure has affected websites and companies

Akamai has confirmed that a DNS failure has caused its services to be inaccessible around the world, affecting all kinds of web pages, services and companies that depend on its network.

Akamai is one of the most popular providers of cloud services, including hosting, computing, and protection. However, this popularity means that when something goes wrong, it can affect a large number of services that apparently have nothing in common.

The problem is also affecting companies, which use Akamai for their private networks, leaving employees unable to continue working.

Akamai immediately confirmed on its official website that it was aware of a problem on its network. Specifically, he believes that the failure is in his DNS service, which “translates” the addresses that we enter in a browser to the IP address to which the system has to connect.

The company promised to actively investigate this issue, and encouraged customers to contact support if they are experiencing service impact as a result.

Finally, approximately 40 minutes after the first incidents, some services have returned to normal. Airbnb, Steam and many others are now accessible as normal.

Akamai has confirmed to elEconomista.es that this afternoon’s failure was caused by a software ‘bug’ in the DNS system, confirming that the error lasted for approximately one hour. The company has denied that these issues are the result of a hacker attack.
